Eating out Posted by Judy (stoke) on 27/9/2008
GF board
For anyone living in or visiting Staffordshire, I ate out at the George and Dragon in Rough Close, Stone last night. I looked on the support board for eating out recommendations beforehand. The pub is under new ownership since,so the gf menu is not the same as on the supp. board. They also have the Noah,s Ark in Hartshill too. The chef ticked off the food I could have on the menu, main meals are fish, steaks, lamb chops, roast chicken, cottage pie or a couple of veggie options, pumpkin and blue cheese rissoto, or potato dumplings, cherry tomatoes and blue cheese, and salads for gf's. Unfortuantly the only dessert was ice cream, though the waitress, who was very helpful, apologised and said they would get more suitable desserts on the menu. So there wasn't any gf bread either. Overall, the food was tasty, it's a nice, relaxing place and the staff were very nice.

The Spotgate Inn on the Hilderstone Road (not that far from Rough Close) can also cater for coeliacs without any problems.
I went there a few weeks ago when some clients came over from Spain to visit me - had a wide range of dishes and were very accommodating. Also had Spanish speakers, to help my clients choose from the menu!

lovely restaurant Staffordshire Posted by judy(stoke) on 15/12/2013, 23:07:53 I ate out at the Wayfarer, Stone Staffordshire on two occasions over the last week and apart from being a lovely place and very helpful staff, they have a separate coeliac menu and adapt the desserts as well. They also own the Swan with Two necks, on the Nantwich Road, Newcastle under Lyme and The Orange Tree in Trent Vale, Stoke on Trent. They do get very busy so always wise to book ahead. It makes a change not having to travel miles away for a decent gf meal. www.thewayfarerstone.co.uk/
