Tom Cobleigh Pubs Posted by Simon&Troy (Leicester) on GF board 27/7/2003
Had a very pleasant surprise yesterday - had to go a meet a man about a dog (as you do!) and actually met in a pub in Leicester called The Local Hero - a Tom Cobleigh Pub.Whilst there, had a quick broswe at the menu and discovered gluten free saussages on the kid menu under healthy options!! Troy decided he would like to try them so we stopped for lunch. Had to do a quick education to the staff about cross contamination though - they were about to serve up chips for Troy that had been cooked in the same oil as non-gluten free chicken nuggets. We settled for saussages, mashed potato and peas - and when they bought the plate - there was enough on there for an adult! The saussages tasted really nice ( I really had to persuade Troy to let me try some as he wanted every last piece of all three of them!) After my words of warning about cross contamination, the staff took great delight in telling me that they had decided to grill the saussages (with a clean piece of foil over the grill) instead of fry them - just to be on the safe side - excellent!! I can see lunch there becoming a regular feature!!

I am going to Houston's Leicester on Friday evening and I emailed to check that what I had chosen from the menu was GF. They not only replied the same day, the chef rang me at work and went through my choices with me, explaining what moderations he would make so that they would be GF. He said his wife is coeliac and he understood the importance of sticking to a strict diet

Went to Houston's in Leicester on Friday night. The chef had rang me a couple of days earlier and assured me that everything I had chosen from the menu would be GF. The waiting staff were brilliant and made sure that the GF food wasn't given to anyone else by mistake.

Fantastic GF in Leicester City Posted by CJ on 1/5/2014
GF board
Found a new Deli in the centre of Leicester for those who know their way around. It's on the second floor of the Silver Arcade which has recently been redeveloped. (On the ground floor there are still empty units so people walking through won't necessarily think about going upstairs (or lift) so they're are going to miss the Deli, hence me sounding its virtues!!). They are really clued up with cross-contamination, can do any of the lovely sandwiches using GF bread, separate boards, utensils etc.Very friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. Comfy and friendly, not posh!!
