GF board
.... thought I'd like to share a couple of eating out recommendations with you. ...
First one: The Crown Inn, in Goostrey, Cheshire (not far from Holmes Chapel, which is Junction 18 of the M6.) The address is: 111 Main Road, Goostrey, Cheshire, CW4 8PE. Phone: 01477 532128 and ask for Cynthia.
Lovely old pub with large restaurant and home-cooked food. I've now eaten here several times with my family since GF (and many occasions pre-GF), last occasion being Christmas Eve. Staff there have always been very helpful and apparently they have several regular Coeliacs so know about gluten-free and cross-contamination. I've so far eaten: melon and sorbet, gammon and pineapple and ice-cream for pudding. The chips are not ok but I was provided with a baked potato instead and with my own private dish of veggies. On the first occasion there the waitress accidentally forgot to ask for my ice-cream to be minus wafer and was very apologetic when this was pointed out. She returned with a fresh dish of ice-cream with no evidence of a "wafer dent"!
Second suggestion: Tavern Fayre, Wigan Road, Hunger Hill, Bolton, BL3 4RH. Tel: 01204 62861.
We've eaten here many times too prior to being gluten-free and always had good food. I didn't know if they'd do gluten-free though but we rang and spoke to Jane who was very helpful, knew straight away what gluten-free meant (as opposed to so many places where the person answering the phone says "eh?" or words to that effect!) and was able to assue us that all meals are cooked to order and that many would be suitable for me. She also said that chips are cooked separate from everything else so would also be fine for me. In the event I had beef stroganoff which was lovely and so filling that I didn't attempt to order any pudding!
Hope these suggestions will help others. I always find eating out so nervewracking now and love it when I can go somewhere and relax knowing that I'll be safe! .....
