GF board
We called at Skipton in North Yorkshire at the weekend, well worth a vistit to anyone who likes village settings and loveley craft shops, there is a very large market on the actual main street. We sat and had a coffee and GF Chocolate cake in a cafe called the 'Wild Oates'. Top end of the main street, through the health through shop & up the stairs.

Re: Skipton? Posted by Amelie on 2/8/2006 GF board
There is a cafe which I have been to twice and it is great. Their soups are GF and they can provide GF crackers and "treats" for dessert, although I've never had any.
They also don't mind if you take your own GF bread with you (just let them know when you arrive). They do loads of salads and light bites too.
It's just off the High Street on a pedestrianised bit and is called Jacques Simon. The street it is on is called Victoria Street.....

From GF board Skipton I ate at the Canalside Restaurant. They have several menu options marked gluten free, dairy free etc. I must say it was a very nice place, the staff were pleasant and the food was good but a little on the pricey side. The portions were just not enough for my friend & I didn't feel too full myself. They have a website where you can see sample menus. GF Skipton area - Indian Posted by Audrey on 11/8/2013 GF board There is an Indian Restaurant called the Aagrah, part of a large Yorkshire chain. I haven't been to the Skipton branch, though I have been to other branches in Pudsey, Leeds and Tadcaster. Things that are gluten free are marked on the menu, but it is always wise to consult with one of the senior waiters just to make sure.
The food in these restaurants is usually very good and the waiters are pleasant and helpful.

The Retreat Cafe and Tea Room is actually about 10 miles from Skipton in the little market town of Grassington - which is well worth a visit, set amidst lovely countryside. www.theretreatcafe.co.uk/

GF Skipton area

Called at The Old Granary Pately Bridge and had the best gf cake I've had, Viennese carrot cake but they wouldn't give me the recipe. Another place was advertising gf scones. Ate at the Wooly Sheep on Skipton High Street both nights, main courses no problems and 4/5 choices but no gf puddings at all only ice cream. Couldn't find Loafy's that was recommended. Went to Haworth today and one of the places on the high street advertised gh bread, cakes muffins and meals.
