From AndewJules on Yahoo UK-Coeliac:
We went to a Brewsters (Same chain as Brewers Fayre) in Swansea with my Coeliac Daughter. They were MOST helpful - the manager looked after us very well - there was not much choice on the menu but they did advise they could cook a plain chicken breast with jacket potato & salad - they took it back once becuase they said someone had put butter on the potato and they weren't sure if that was G/F so they cooked another without butter! There were no sweets she could have so they made her a fruit salad which for a large chain, I was very impressed with - you don't usually get that sort of service as it is usually "production line" type meals. 10/10 for Swansea Brewsters!!

Brewers Arms, Snaith - CD Friendly Pub
Posted by Alison on 30/4/2005
Until recently we avoided dining out because of the fear of Peter being glutened. Having talked to the Landlord, Mike, who is also the Chef, and has a friend with CD, his knowledge was quite limited however, he was extremely willing to help and had obviously sought advice from his friend after our initial conversation. Although we successfully ate there several times Peter was fed up with plain steak or omelette , salad and jacket potato. What he really wanted was proper chips (they use frozen chips) and a pepper sauce with his steak. We were going to go elsewhere but we love the pub as the food and atmosphere is fantastic - and just a stagger away! I spoke to Mike yesterday and he agreed to us buying a deep fat fryer to be used only for Peters food and to make him proper chips. He also bought Bisto gravy granules in the jar so he could make a GF pepper sauce. How fantastic is that! The result was a wonderful meal at our favourite pub, if only they were all like that. They also have a large selection of Whisky... I asked Mike's permission to put a message on here and he said he would be delighted to cater for anyone dining there. The details are:-
Brewers Arms, Pontefract Rd, Snaith, Goole, East Yorkshire, DN14 9JS

Recently there was a discussion on here about restaurant chains and their attitude to providing GF food and I believe it was Brewers fayre that were un coperative?
I have just come back from my local Brewers Fayre and they were actually quite helpful. They had full details of GF items whcih they talked through with me and even after I had made a choice the chef was consulted again. The amusing thing was though that in the pack containing their allergy information was a note whcih I could only partly read upside down that showed my name very clearly. I would love to have known what that was about as i have never written to them nor knowingly given them my name although I have in the past used a credit card with my name clearly shown.

They do have an allergy list in each pub which indicates if food contains gluten or not but from experience, they won't guarantee re contamination. We have had 2 very bad experiences in 2 different Brewsters (part of same group) with GF food so if you intend to go, I would certainly advise you speak to a Manager beforehand to clarify their position - I think a lot of it is down to staff training (or lack of it. (Won't go into great detail, but one time, they wanted me to sign a disclaimer before they allowed my daughter to have any food!)

We have had REAL problems at various Brewsters too and I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole now. They basically refuse to cook for my daughter if I explain she is a Coeliac and when I took a sealed carton of Ambrosia custard, I even had a real job geting them to warm that up so she could have the same as my son. Well, actually, she wasn't allowed the same - he had bananas & custard (Brewsters own) but they wouldn't let me have (buy) a banana for my daughter to go with her custard. (Never mind the fact that my friend & I had already spent about £30 in the place!) I have given up writing to their head office about their attitude - they are just NOT interested.

I eat out quite regularly at Brewers fayre local to where I live - I have a choice of two and they do know me now but I never have any problems eating there, normally I have either the salmon fillet with boiled potatoes, or gammon steak and chips or the prawn and salmon salad bowl and for dessert I have strawberry ice cream with marshmallows instead of a wafer!!!

Jill Liverpool » Thu Jun 23, 2005 8:14 am I emailed Brewers Fayre yesterday, and got this response, Thanks for your email - we do appreciate that some of our guests do suffer from an intolerance or allergy and therefore all of our restaurants have allergy data information. We suggest that guests ask a team member or duty manager of sight of this information so that they can make informed choices as to the menu items they can choose. Once again, thank you for contacting us.
