Gf board
Just got back from 4 nights in Cromer. Excellent crabs (where dressed crab just means that it's been cooked and 'mushed up' with no dressing of any kind, so it's perfectly gf) and a wonderful sweetshop (on the corner of Mount Street and Bond Street - real old-fashioned sweetie shop with lots of glass jars, a large proportion of which are labelled as gluten-free).
Slightly less happy was our attempt to go to the Mirabelle (listed on the Supp board) in West Runton - this no longer appears to exist, certainly the phone no. is unobtainable and it has no listing in the phone book or yellow pages.
Similarly, we didn't find Mr Chan's Chinese Restaurant in Horning (there was a Chinese on Lower Street, but with a totally different name.)
However we did find Taps Restaurant, 25 Lower Street, Horning (01692 630219) and we can't recommend them highly enough. They do a lunchtime menu £5 for 2 courses or £8.50 for three courses. All the food is prepared on site and they were very happy to adapt items to make them gluten-free. (E.g. the fishcake was made without breadcrumbs, and rather than deep-frying it in the same oil as the crumbed ones, they knew to shallow fry it. And they were happy to do Adam a caramelised banana with icecream rather than the banana fritter on the menu.) This all despite the fact that we rolled up at about 2pm, just as they were officially stopping serving lunch. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The waitress explained that her mother is severely allergic to eggs, and has needed her epipen in restaurants on a number of occasions, so she understood just how important it is to avoid contamination.
We're just plotting how soon we can return...
