You could check the La Tasca (tapas restaurant) & Nandos (Portuguese restaurant) websites for locations; they do g/f food. They both have branches in Norwich if that's any help, www.nandos.co.uk www.latasca.co.uk From GF board Posted by Ali

We have just spent a long weekend in Aberdeen and had a really good time. It is a city well worth a visit!
Wetherspoons, Union Street. Thumbs down. They started by saying they couldn't gaurantee the food would be gf as they have a small kitchen - pointed out the disclaimer on the back of the menu! When I asked for chips, was told that they had two friers, one for vegetarian and one for everything else so battered food had been cooked in both. They offered a baked potato but I was so upset at the whole attitude, I walked out! I have written to Head Office so await a reply.
La Tasca Thumbs up! A wonderful meal, lovely service and I would highly recommend it.
Hilton Hotel Thumbs up! We had two evening meals and breakfast three mornings. They cooked the rostis at breakfast separately and got gf bread for my breakfast. The evening meals were adapted so that I had plenty of choice but if there had been nothing there I liked, they would have done something different. Again, another positive experience.
Whilst wandering around Old Aberdeen, we were told to stop for a snack in the Uni building, which we did. Subway, the franchise, was providing delicious sandwiches which I obviously couldn't eat. However, the server changed his plastic gloves and prepared a salad in front of me, which was delicious and refreshing.
Well, that's my report!

...... You could also try the Mussel Inn in Rose St if you like seafood. I met the 2nd chef Andrew socially and I am sure he would happily cater for you if you ask. He is very approachable.

Spanish Tapas Has anyone tried the Spanish Tapas Bars, La Tasca. www.latasca.co.uk They are well geared up for Coeliacs, on their site you can view the mneu and also view a list of everything on the menu containong Gluten. All their places have this list, you just have to ask. great food and not that expensive either. From Peter on groups.yahoo.com/group/UK-Coeliac/message/1971

La Tasca
From Stephen Lord on Yahoo UK-Coeliac
I had a wonderful experience last week. Following the posting on here of the La Tasca Tapas chain I thought I'd give it a try!!! I have to admit I was sceptical but Colchester La Tasca was EXCELLENT!
I asked the guy if they had gluten free and said I had been told they might have a seperate menu. "Oh, we used to but now its on the MAIN menu he said" I looked through the menu and found it, right after the V for vegetarian is the GF for Gluten Free!
Not only that but it REALLY WAS... Believe me I'd know by now!
The REALLY good thing is I was treated like a human being. The guy didn't look at me like I was a guide-dog accompanying my friend that my friend was asking to be fed. This transposed into me feeling relaxed and trusting in a resteraunt for the first time in ... well a long time. He brought the menu and pointed out the wines were on the back since I obviously wouldn't want a beer AND he then asked us if my friend wanted bread on the table or not.
OH ---- words just cannot express. I think I came close to tears from happyness in a resteraunt for the first time EVER. I just felt I had 100% confidence in them and I could order fromt he specially marked GF items with complete confidence.
I repeated the experience in La Tasca in Covent Garden. Hmmm. not quite the same experience. Not bad but not quite thesame awareness. I cleaned the bread crumbs of the table myself and then had to stop the waitress dragging the bread basket over my tapas!
Still, after the intervention I managed to get through it without incident but they didn't instill the same confidence as the Colchester one.
Next step is writing to the HQ (I asked for a comment card to make comments in Colchester but the manager came and accepted my compliments ....instead. I made it clear I only came BECUASE it was recommended for the GF items and thet I would return next time I visit Colchester.

I often eat tapas. basically it means little dishes and the idea is that you get a few of them. They are great for sharing - you can get a selection then and have a bit of everything. However, i do get tapas at lunch sometimes when I dont share and usually just get 2 tapas for myself - generally a tortilla espanol and either patatas bravas or mushrooms with garlic (I am vegetarian as well as coeliac). There are a few tapas places in putney and the food is delicious! My husband and I also make at home fairly regularly

la tasca Posted by Penny on 7/11/2004 GF board had a fantastic meal in manchester last night. the service was fantastic and they made sure all the non gf food was kept away from me! it was lovely to be able to have so much to choose from and not having to ask which is gf, because it has gf next to it on the menu. so thanks to whoever it was that mentioned it on here deansgate, manchester (the end near to M&S/Arndale and Victoria station). you can't book, so we just got a bottle of wine and the others had some starters while we were waiting for a table. really nice atmosphere. ******************* Re: la tasca Posted by Giles on 7/11/2004, 7:40 pm we went to La Tasca in Newcastle last night also because of the message on the board recently. we had a good meal too and i didn't mention i was coeliac which was nice and didn't have any problems. the others with me had paella but i didn't because it isn't marked gluten free but oddly some of the Tapas dishes with paella are gluten free. i had 3 tapas dishes: Patatas a la Pobre £2.45 (V & GF) fried potatoes sautéed with onions, red and green peppers Paella Valenciana £3.25 (GF) paella rice with mixed seafood and chicken Brocheta de Pollo £3.45 (GF) fresh chicken breast & red peppers on a skewer marinated with spices, served with garlic mayonnaise i thought the Patatas a la Pobre and Brocheta de Pollo where best. sounds a lot having 3 tapas dishes but they aren't very big. it is nicely located in modern building with high ceiling on the quay side and the river side of the restaurant is all windows with a good view of the millennium bridge looming high into the sky. it is noisy but this gives good atmosphere. there is a public car park directly opposite. like Penny says you can't book, we got last table about 7.45pm and rest of the evening people were waiting. Tapas in Leicester Posted by cathy on 11/5/2008
GF board
Well I went and tried La Tasca tapas restaurant on Granby Street in Leicester last night and...so far so good. They had several GF dishes clearly marked on the menu, altho' also a disclaimer indicating that they don't have a decicated gluten-free kitchen, but hey, if I'd eaten the tiniest amount of wheat I would have known within 20 minutes. Am SO CHUFFED to have found somewhere where there wasn't a jacket potato in sight, so any other Leicester coeliacs I highly recommend it.

Hannah's been to the one in Solihull and in Leamington with no ill effects. She had the veggie paella I think.
