From Sue on Yahoo UK-Coeliac board:
The restaurant in Worcester is called Charlies and it's in Sidbury,
just past the City Walls Road and close to the Commandery and
Worcester Porcelain (if anyone visits Worcester it's pretty easy
to find, but not in the shopping centre of the city).
Not far from there, really close to the Royal Porcelain centre and
cathedral is the Cathedral Cafe - I've eaten a plain jacket potato
there twice with no ill effects! I didn't actually ask about it being
GF, but the staff ... were
very helpful about my DS's finicky requirements about how he
wanted his sausage sandwich and seemed willing to accommodate
customers' requests if possible (it was pretty quiet both times
we visited and there was an even fussier small boy demanding
spaghetti, which they didn't have but they asked if pasta would
be OK; obviously not to do with GF, but the attitude was good
IYKWIK).
The pub where we ate on Sat is the Talbot in Main Road, Kempsey
- a village on the edge of Worcester ..
If anybody ventures to Malvern and wants a snack I'd recommend
GreenLink in Graham Road (in the centre). It's a wholefood shop
but they also do light snacks and include a couple of GF (plus
vegan) options, marked on the menu Also in Malvern is the
Bran Tub which has a really good range of GF foods - but sadly
doesn't have a cafe However, if you're self-catering in the
area or anything like that, they do a selection of GF pies
and cakes (made locally), plus the usual range of GF pasta,
flour etc - just more choice than in the supermarkets. They
also do Bombay mix and other things, which are all marked
as to what they contain and clearly labelled as NOT
containing flour, gluten, eggs, dairy (or anything else people check
for). The staff are usually *very* knowledgeable - I remember
years go (er, at least 20 ...) this shop was tucked away (they've
moved) and they made up the packets of bombay mix etc on
the premises and you could see them doing it if you went at
the right time ... not sure if they still make up packs in the
shop. Anyway, the Bran Tub is in Worcester Road (which
is very long, so this is the part close to Belle Vue Terrace
in the centre of Malvern).

... I took the family and my Dad to Puccini's in Worcester last weekend. It's a v small restaurant - it's advisable to book. They made gf pizza's and all their pasta dishes were available in a gluten free version using gf pasta spirals. Dad and Sam shared carbonara sauce, which would normally be served on tagliatelli, with gf pasta spirals. They also shared a gluten free ham and mushroom pizza. Both were absolutely delicious and worth the slightly longer wait we seemed to have than other customers. They particularly liked the delicious thin crust on the pizza, a new experience for Sam. I had rissotto, another gf option.
As we were a group of 5 we had their only round table which was unfortunately stuck in the back next to the kitchen. With a smaller (or larger) group you could have a better choice or sit outside, continental style, or if you're lucky get tables pushed together. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Worcester, I found it on the Coeliac UK website. It's at 12 Friar St., phone 01905 27770.

In Great Malvern town centre:
1. Anupams Indian restaurant, very plush Indian in main street in Malvern. £10 menu on Sunday afternoon. Air conditioned.
2. Cafe ZamZam, more down to earth Indian just below the lights in Great Malvern, very friendly, good food, bring your own booze, good value.
3. For goodies, waitrose + somerfields supermarket both have free-from sections. Also good independent health food/allergy shop The Bran Tub on the Worcester Rd.
4. Pubs in town centre- The Red Lion - does good food. The Nags Head, further along the Worcester Rd from the centre near Malvern Link Common is also good, but I've never tried gf there.
-----------------------------------------------
In Barnards Green, 2 miles down the hill from Great Malvern, at a peanut shaped roundabout:
1. Chinese takeaway will do gf meals with no notice. (There are 2 chinese restaurants very close, the good one is I think called Hing Thai, the BAD one I know is 'Wok and Roll').
2. Two chippys (no gf fish unfortunately, but the chippy with the long queue on the same side of the road as the chinese is the best and we have always found their chips OK.)
3. Good independent shops in Barnards Green are the excellent greengrocer, butcher, fishmonger, also a small Somerfield (no freefrom), bank, one-stop.
-------------------------------------
Other places:
1. On the other side of the hills, The Kettle Sings cafe. Sometimes has meringues, but unfortunately no gf cake. Worth going for the spectacular views across the Welsh hills, and you will need therfore to book if you want to go at meal times. You can find something gf on the menu for a main course.
…Kettle Sings is on Jubilee Drive. I would recommend it even only for a cup of tea as the view is so good, there may not be much choice for gf, but there will be something.…
2. Pubs are a good option round here:
The Wellington is a longish drive out towards Ledbury on the A449, and knows about gf.
The Plough and Harrow is a couple of miles from Barnards Green along the Guarlford road out of Malvern, they also can cater particularly if warned in advance, and the food is excellent.
