Have just been away for a romantic weekend, i always worry about eating at places i don't know but i had a great time and was able to eat my meals without any worry.
Castle Green Hotel at Kendal. Will even get gluten free bread for you if you request it at time of booking.
Staff could not have been more helpful or understanding did not once feel like a fussy eater!!

Review: Cottage Kitchen, Kendal If you get a chance to visit the Cottage Kitchen in Finkle St, Kendal, Cunbria please do. They have a great selection of GF foods cooked by the propritoress who really understands. There is even GF fish and chips - and I wish I knew how she bakes her cakes because even non-gf clients drool over them. Its only a small enterprise but sadly under used in my opinion.

GF board
The Cottage kitchen opposite Beale's department store has a fantastic selection of their home made pies, quiche and sweet pastry tarts. I succumbed to pie, chips, peas and gravy and hubby had fish and chips which was also GF! Pastry was delicious, so well worth a trip.

That reassuring. I live in Cumbria and am always telling my coeliac friends that we are fully clued up here in the northern reaches - they seem to think we're backwards or something! I have seldom patronised an eating place that couldn't cater for me in the last 5 years or so. The trick is to ask, and if worried about the blank looks from waiting staff, to add a quip like 'I'd hate to throw up all over your lovely carpet' (which OK, isn't true - but it makes them take notice). I have my favourite eating places locally - in the Kendal area - and can recommend the Croolands Hotel, the Barrows Green inn, the Station Inn Oxenholme, the Cottage cafe Kendal, the Heaves Hotel, .... oh I could go on and on. So don't be put off by the remoteness of the Lakes - we're fine with coeliac disease.
