Aldeburgh, Suffolk
Posted by Christine from Northants on 29/9/2018, 21:37:38 Just back from a week in Aldeburgh and have to say that we found more and more people are aware of coeliac disease when we were out and about looking for somewhere to eat. The Bell Inn at Saxmundham was very good. The Jolly Sailor in Orford was too and Sutherland House Hotel in Southwold was excellent. The Castle Inn at Framlingham was not so good and the Crown Inn at Great Glemham was awful. It was advertised online as providing GF fish and chips. When the meal arrived there was no question about which one was the GF one! Mine was a sort of grey colour with no crispiness. My husband's was golden and crispy. We pre-booked a table, but should have been wary as the place was empty apart from two locals. Never mind, the other good ones made up for it. One other place we visited was called Cragg Sisters Tearoom in Aldeburgh. It's like sitting in a granny's front room. There were seven tables inside (others outside) and of those seven tables three of us at adjacent tables (all female) were coeliacs! I could hardly believe it. Lovely Italian ice-cream on the sea-front all GF and delicious. The seller was very apologetic that he'd run out of GF cones. We certainly picked a good week for the weather!
