GF board
Just a quick update on my recent trip to Rethymno in Crete. We stayed half board at the sentido Aegean Pearl, and was catered for very well. In the evening the food was labelled if it was gf. Bread was available on request. I didn't go in many supermarkets and no big ones and There was not a lot of gf products available, I found pasta, bread and rice cakes but they not in a separate area the gf pasta was with normal pasta etc. Along the promenade there was a few restaurants that offered gf food. I had a gf pizza in Chania and almost every one speaks very good English. I would definitely go back to Crete as its is a very beautiful place and I managed 12 days without being glutened.....
..Un like Spain the ice creams aren't labelled if they are gf but the do sell walls so I stuck to magnums. There was local ice lollies but no English writing! We found a ice cream frozen yogurt parlour on the prom called yaourtaki. The staff were very helpful and we went quite often. They also did great coffee. We flew to/from Heraklion airport. They had no gf food and was expensive (9 euros for 2 bottles of ice tea) I didn't like the airport as it was VERY HOT and seemed very disorganized.

GF in Crete Posted by Karen Essex on 14/7/2017 GF board
Most of the produce in the supermarket had the ingredients in Greek only or Greek and some other languages that I didn't recognise at all.
We picked up some GF pasta in a small supermarket in Rethymno.
Alana Restaurant in Rethymno shows GF on the menu. It's a lovely restaurant in the old town area near to the Fortezzi (old Fortress) and some lovely tourist shops selling traditional products.
We saw no GF at Heraklion airport.
Also the M&S sold on board the British Airways flight had no gluten free food other than a few crisps, a few olives, some fruit and nuts and a GF chewy bar. (We had a severe nut allergy customer on our flight so we couldn't eat anything with nuts in it anyway - so we could only have bought crisps and olives). Fortunately we had taken sandwiches with us. (NB. Take a packed lunch without any nuts).
Another point away from gluten free food - there was no entertainment at all on a 4 hour flight to a holiday destination and the drinks trolley (to purchase drinks) only came round once. A poor show from BA!
