Hi, I am new to this forum. My name is Alison and I am a 44 year old Mother of 4. In 1999 I was terribly ill and ended up losing 2 stone. Doctor kept saying IBS and then I saw something about gluten on TV. I stopped eating it and low and behold I started to feel better. I was happily GF for 12 years when a consultant persuaded me to have a biopsy. Obviously I had to start eating gluten again. To my surprise my symptoms were not so bad ! I had the endoscopy which was clear, a scan on my organs which was clear and the biopsy. I was never recalled by the hospital and assumed it was because the results were clear. Over the last 4 years I have been " filling my boots" with all of the things I missed out on and have been diagnosed with migraines and been back and forth with leg pains, stomach and rib cage pain. Each time met with " everything seems fine" I had bloods done last week and my iron and calcium levels are very low and the Dr suggested screening for Coeliac. I explained I had it done 4 years ago but was never recalled. She looked on screen and lo and behold, there were my results. Inflammation and villious atrophy ! 4 years ago I was officially diagnosed Coeliac and no one thought it was a good idea to tell me I am now waiting to go back to the hospital for bone density scans etc to see what damage has been done in the last 4 years. My feelings are now a mixture of anger that I have been put at risk for the last 4 years and relief that I am coeliac as I always though and am not just going mad ! Looking forward now to working on recovery and feeling human again
