My daughter is coeliac and starting school this september. Whilst every other parent is over the moon about the provision of free hot school meals it fills me with dread. She is super sensitive and I have a meeting arranged with the catering company that provide for the school this week. I am keen to hear any tips I should ask or things I can do to help make it easier, so far it seems they may be able to cater for her but not pizza and chips like the other 5 year olds, she will have a jacket potato! When they have jam pudding and ice cream, she will be offered a banana!! I could send her with a packed lunch for peace of mind but would like her to have a hot meal and also with it being free my thoughts are she will be sitting all by herself while every other parent takes advantage of the financial savings. Is it appropriate to provide food, ie take in a box of gluten free fish fingers when this is on the menu, or should they provide it. I have been told she is the only one a gluten free diet in the school. Advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.
