Mermaid Fish bar, North Finchley

GF board
I found out about this fish&chips shop by chance, and this morning I called them up to check they could cater for GF tonight. The owner was very helpful on the phone, took my order, and promised it would all be ready for me to collect.
I asked for plaice, as I had not eaten this in years, since diagnosis. Despite the 20mins bike ride for my husband to bring it back home, the batter was still crisp and delicious. It was not greasy at all, and tasted just like the real thing. I had also asked for a large portion of GF chips to share amongst the 4 of us: they looked very pale (because of the brand new, clean oil they had used for frying!), but tasted wonderful.
The portions were huge, too - far too much to eat it all. The large cod we ordered for my husband and the kids was literally half a large cod: it would have been enough to feed 4 or 5 on its own.
All in all, I was very impressed, and will definitely use them again. Only downside, you need to book it in advance, so not something you can decide to have as a spur of the moment: some planning needed, just like with most GF things!!
Address is 174 Long Lane, N3 2RA in case anyone else wants to give them a try.

Not sure which direction you're coming from, but you're in the area, then I think Andrew's In Whetstone is slightly nicer than Mermaid. You don't have to book (tho I did ring to check first) and they do gf Mon-Thurs
