Gluten Free in Iceland

Just returned from Iceland and thought I would post about my experience.
Firstly I have never known anywhere quite so knowledgeable and accommodating. I did take my own supply of gnocchi, bread and crackers but most of the bigger supermarkets had a good supply of pasta, crackers, bread, cereal etc. All of the guest houses (except for one) that I contacted beforehand supplied gluten free breakfast for me - albeit in the one case it was just rice cakes instead of the rye bread that everyone else got. The restaurants (eye wateringly expensive) all knew about it, the staff where very helpful in pointing out what I could have and clearly knowledgeable about cross contamination etc.
I highly recommend Guest House 1x6 in Keflavik if you are looking for somewhere to stay the night you arrive/depart - they supplied great bread and muesli. The restaurant staff at Halldorskaffi in Vik were brilliant and while our waitress at the Lava Restaurant at the Blue Lagoon knew all about what was required for the Coeliac diet, she was also asking me about the difference between an allergy/intolerance/Coeliac as she wanted to understand the condition better - leaving me feeling like I had helped her rather than the other way around. ......
