I was in a J D Wetherspoons pub in Harrogate recently and their menu had the crossed grain symbol next to the food on the menu that was gluten free. I had a steak with a sauce, great. They also offered me gluten free beer. Why can't all restaurants be like that?

Plus Gluten Free Beer Posted by Theresa on 16/6/2007 GF board .... if you are ever on holiday in Cumbria. (I have a Guest House in Keswick www.leonardsfieldhouse.com ), the closest Wetherspoons in Bransty Arch, Whitehaven are now stocking Greens Gluten Free Beer to go with your meal! One of our members at the West Cumbria Group has negotiated with the Manager of this particular Wetherspoons to stock the GF Beers. However, this is a pilot scheme to see how it goes at Whitehaven only. If it is successful they may consider 'rolling it out' to other branches. Worth making the effort if anyone makes a visit to the Lake District. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I went to the Bournemouth Wetherspoons recently and staff there were helpful and I had no problems. They had the gf list available there and then. The banana split is excellent......

Wetherspoons in Poole Town Centre and on the Quay can do gf chips and can cater for Coeliacs on their curry nights. Pizza Hut at Tower Park will do gluten free pizza if you take a base in. You can eat in or take away but as all their toppings are safe, there's no need to worry one way or the other. Last time I got pizza there, they only charged £2.00! ….

Wetherspoons again
Posted by Cassie M on GF board 27/9/2003,
Had a brilliant meal (rogan josh) in 'the counting house' in Glasgow toon today, I asked if they had anything gluten free on the menu after hearing they have a gf list in kitchens (not this place) and she went away for ages......came back looking puzzled and told me "no"!! So i asked to see her menu pack she was perusing and it said "suitable for coeliacs" as one of the headings, so i said,"that's us, we're coeliacs" and she said, "ooooooh so that's gluten is it"?? Giggle. Hey ho, anyway, their chicken korma is GF too. So if they don't know about 'gluten' mention the word 'coeliac'.

I had a similar exerience to Cassie, though I didn't eat on the day as I was just asking about availability. Their curries are available only on Thursdays - don't ask me why. The girl didn't know either. Buth there was a range of grills we could have.

Experiences at Wetherspoons

I've eaten in the ones in Hull, Sheffield, Birmingham and Chester and have never had a bad experience at any of them. The staff have always been really helpful and the menu now is the best it's ever been (in my opinion) in terms of choice and labelling...

I have eaten in loads of wetherspoons and never had any ill effects. I usually go for jacket potato but have had steak, gammon and ham and eggs. If there's nowhere else its my safety place.

I had a meal last week, Tikka marsala it was lovely but it came up with 2 poppadoms and a nan, so you need to tell them no nan extra poppadoms instead. I had no ill effects.
