This was our second visit, the first was in early January, the food and welcome was excellent, the only down side was the decor, the pub was looking very tired. When we went on Monday 25 February, what a difference! Everything was repainted, the toilets were refurbished, everything clean and bright. We were welcomed as soon as we came in and Nic (front of house) greeted us like long lost friends and Dave (chef) came out and had a chat. This is firstly a pub, but the menu ranges from normal cheap pub food to an excellent choice of fish (their speciality). Teresa is a coeliac, so had to check what was okay. Dave is very aware of what is gluten free as their children are coeliac. He can adapt practicably all the dishes, he makes gluten free batter, and fries in a separate fryer so preventing cross-contamination. On our previous visit he did deep fried banana in batter specially for Teresa. They also believe in local suppliers, using the greengrocer in the outdoor market and local butcher. On this visit Teresa had Sea bass fillets (2) in a Thai King size prawn sauce, it came with veg, new potatoes (£11.95), I had Slow roasted Belly Pork in cranberry gravy, it came with carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, French beans, deep fried parsnip and roast potatoes (£9.95). The pork came with a steak knife, it wasn't needed as the meat was so tender it just fell apart.
