Hi Bill,
Only just seen your post below.
I assume you're staying in the Best Western on Milton Road East? If you head into Portobello from there the Espy pub (http://www.the-espy.com/) is good, the burgers are GF and they have a good selection. Just make sure the waiting staff ask the chef.
Also in Portobello, the Beach House (http://www.thebeachhousecafe.co.uk/), just opposite the Espy does gluten free cakes and wonderful ice cream, also soup and salads which are GF.
If you're looking for some goodies to take home, Findlays Butchers (http://www.findlayofportobello.co.uk/) in Portobello do great GF burgers, sausages, haggis and black pudding.
I've been told that the cafe at Newhailes (http://www.nts.org.uk/Property/Newhailes/) near Musselburgh does GF food, haven't had a chance to try it yet though.
The only place I've ever eaten at in North Berwick is the Buttercup Cafe - the best soup I've ever had...
And last, but definitely not great, in the heart of golfing country in Gullane - Falko (http://www.falko.co.uk/visit-us/gullane-cafe), the renowned bakery, just overlooking the golf green does sachertorte which is gf. It's the only thing they do which is gf, but frankly, you wouldn't want to bother eating anything else.
There is an M&S at Fort Kinnaird (horrid large out of town shopping place) near to the Best Western and they stock quite a few GF goodies.
Hope that helps. If I think of anywhere else I'll add it on. Apologies there aren't any chippies - not what I would choose so nothing to comment on. Please let us know if you come across anywhere else.
