There is a formal channel for dealing with
medical diets e.g. peanut allergies, coeliac or
diabetic children. In these cases, the first point
of contact would be your Head Teacher who
will help with a detailed request for a medically
approved diet.
In all cases, we welcome
discussion with parents.

My mum treated me to lunch in the bistro at the Grosvenor in Chester yesterday as we we'd had some good news.
I did the usual when ordering and said I was on a gf diet and was such and such ok for me to eat. I ordered smoked salmon to start with and it came with blinis (mini pancakes) so asked for it without and they brought me gluten free bread to have instead! AND it was warmed up so was nice and soft! I was so impressed. The main course was beautiful aswell.
Definately worth going for a treat if you happen to be in the area

…..I often use the service station on the M56 near Chester. There is a Costa Coffee there where I buy a gluten free biscuit. The staff are really friendly and allow me to eat my own picnic, as they know I an coeliac. They give away baby food which is GF. When I am desperate I have a mango and banana desert. It is quite tasty!! Desperate times lead to desperate measures. Incidentally I thought that costa coffee gave me IBS symptoms until I discovered that the chocolate they sprinkle on the top is not GF. I can now drink a medio coffee without problems…….

What a surprise, the waitress knew what coeliac disease was and got the chef to come and speak to me, he offered to make an avocado and stilton bake, risotto, stir fry, paella or adapt something from the menu. I opted for the paella, with mussels and prawns in, it was divine. At the end of the meal, when others got choc truffles, chef brought out a few grapes for me, so I wasn't left out! The chef said if I gave him a couple of days notice he'd make something more exotic, was a bit overwhelmed! Just shows what happens when you ask! Will be going there again.

Hey, we just had fish and chips from a chippie in Congleton!

For the first time ever as a family - so thats the first time in over 10 years - we've had fish and chips from a chippie. Four standard issue and a gluten free version.
Very convincing gf batter - the glu-2-go one - and our gf daughter enjoyed it very much.
I'm so excited (sad really). This was from the Green Island Chippy in Congleton at 10 Willow St. This place was previously posted by misschips .... which was how we heard about it, but the phone number was slightly wrong - it should be 07970 672913 - resulting in me asking a complete stranger about his gluten-free fish and chips. Poor man didn't have a clue what I was talking about ...

After noticing your post last week about the new gluten-free shop 'Just For You' opening in Congleton, AND a gluten free chippy in Congleton, I printed off the map ready for when we next go in that diection. Went to the Green Island Chippy yesterday. My daughter was thrilled to be able to have 'special' sausage and chips, and 'special' vinegar. She felt every inch the 'special' princess! Went back today, and to the shop - at last she can have ice cream in cones again - so important to a toddler! oh and she had her first ever battered sausage. It was such a relief to let her have her favourite treat meal, knowing she wasn't going to be ill and miserable all the next day.
We are so excited - especially about the puff pastry, the fish fingers, and the sausage rolls expected soon in the shop.
Only wish I could move Congleton a little closer to home!
If anyone is ever going even vaguely near Congleton, we definately recommend the detour - it's well worth it! (oh, and the chips, sausage and fish are amazing). Must stop gushing now, but THANK YOU Lucy!

..... our local chippy (Green Island Chippy in Congleton), who has a permanent dedicated fryer for GF, got some publicity last Monday on the local television news about his GF fish/chips. He had done double his normal week's trade by Friday when we went in (his supplier had been in three times to bring more fish). The people in front of us had GF, we had GF, the people behind us had GF. How often does that happen?
....
.....GF fish in batter (glu-2-go version of batter) - and he knows not to put malt vinegar on, so will offer white wine vinegar. I think he said he has GF sausages as well, but you'd need to check - might be that he's hoping to get them. I know he's trying to get GF gravy. Phone no is 07970 672 913
We're between Macc and Congleton, and distance betwen is less than 10 miles. No real place to sit, but you could walk down the hill and across the rugby field and bridge into the park.

I had a real treat today, gluten free fish and chips!!
I thought I'd share this with you all. Green Island chippy in Congleton, Cheshire is a real gem!! I found their info on the supp board so I know they've been 'featured' on here before but I thought Id mention them again.
I phoned last night before we embarked on our pilgrimage (an hours drive!)just to double check that they really do cater for gf diets and I spoke to the lovely Val, she assured me that Id be rewarded for the journey!! And sure enough I was. They have 2 tables in a side room so we were able to sit down with coffee to enjoy our food.
I had chips with battered pollock (just like Cod but its not endangered) and mushy peas, delicious!!
They use the glu-to-go batter and both Val and Paul are very knowledgeable about the gluten free diet.
They do have cod on the menu as well and gluten free sausages, gravy and curry.
Val and Paul are a lovely couple who are really dedicated to catering for the gluten free population. All in all a very sucsessful adventure!!
They have their own website, link attached.

My Dad has had two lengthy stays in Macclesfield hospital in the stroke unit and they were excellent regarding gf, with proper gf options available at all meals.
I think the food in the medical assessment unit ward was also fine, but he was only there for a couple of days on admission, before being transferred to the stroke ward each time.
There was also a good gf option in the canteen for visitors.
