GF board
Hi, my husband and I stayed at The Stratford last weekend which is owned by the Q Hotels chain. We enjoyed a lovely dinner in the restaurant and were very impressed to see that every menu item was marked (g) if it was gluten free. I'm pleased to say that the majority of choices seemed to be GF which implies this chain would be a great choice for coeliacs

Re: Q Hotels Posted by Christie on 18/10/2011 GF board
Personally, I'd be wary, especially at the Nottingham branch of Q Hotels.
I organise conferences and held an event there in September. I ate in the restaurant the evening I stayed and was pleasantly surprised to see the gluten free options clearly stated on the menu, the waiting staff also seemed aware as well when I re-iterated that I am a coeliac. Unfortunately, the food must have been cross contamintaed as I was quite ill and it could only have been from eating that meal.
The next day when I held my event, all delegates were eating in the restaurant and I was supposed to have had a separate plated meal prepared. After my experience the evening before, I wasn't planning on eating it as I didn't trust the kitchen but I wanted to see what they'd prepared. I was then told by the chef that I could help myself from the buffet!
As I wasn't going to eat the food I didn't kick up a fuss but complained to the hotel manager afterwards. Apparantly they've now put three additional processes in place to help people with special diets and to ensure they're dealt with efficiently and appropriately. Even though I've asked them to confirm what these additional processes are, I've still not yet had any reply.
I visit a lot of hotels due to my job and I'm amazed at the lack of knowledge about special dietary requirements from the chef's. Shouldn't this be part of their training? I'm just grateful that it's only gluten I have tobe careful about rather than nuts - now that thought is truly scary.
