BA - hot meals fine, but the breakfast 'snack' came complete with a Sara Lee cake (ie not gluten free). Have had this before with BA, all comes nicely marked up as 'gluten free' but you need to check EVERYTHING. Also, Tom and Will's (coeliacs) salad dressing contained 'soy sauce' which might or might not have been ok. Tom had his, and is not overly sensitive, so had no reaction.
Restaurants in Manhattan:
SMAC: gf macaroni cheese, any variation you could wish for! This place ONLY does macaroni cheese! Very simple place, but such good comfort food - we went twice during our week's stay!
SMAC macaroni cheese
More upmarket French restaurant. Very good food, Had their own gf menu with a very good choice.
Nice Matin
Fantastic pizza/risotto restaurant in charming Greenwich village. Our boys were so excited to get take away pizza in boxes for the first time ever! And great gf cakes, desserts, breads, too.
Risotteria
Last, and certainly not least (in fact even maybe our favourite place) was Friedman's Lunch, a typical New York diner in bustling Chelsea Market. Tom had a fantastic pastrami and pickle toasted sandwich, and Will had a delicious omelette. Again, they have their own gf menu.
Friedman's Lunch
Also, we found an exclusively gf bakery, Tulus, which meant Tom and Will could eat fabulous cup cakes like everyone else in the city! Also bought good bread from here, which we took to other restaurants for them.
Tulus Bakery
As an extra, we stayed in a fabulous house in Greenwich Village, easily our favourite part of New York, with its bohemian vibe, and its zillions of tiny restaurants and bars, all buzzing with a trendy (not necessarily young!) crowd, from which you could practically see Risotteria through the window. If you fancy a real New York experience, book in at the Jones Street Guesthouse: good rates for a lovely room with small kitchenette, and you're right in the heart of Village life!
