From CUK August 2010 …. Many of you took the time to complete our Diagnosis Survey which we launched last year, and last month, we announced the results to the media. The results of the survey showed that 60% of people with coeliac disease had been initially misdiagnosed with IBS and also that 23% of the 1600 of you who took part, had visited your GP for 11 years or more. A further 11% of patients with symptoms had visited their doctor for over 20 years. This story gained some fantastic coverage including a double page spread in the Mail on Sunday which included interviews with Ian Marber ‘The Food Doctor’ and also singer Estelle Rubio both of whom have been diagnosed with coeliac disease. The article included our website address and statistics showed a huge rise in the number of new visitors to our website who wanted to find out more about the condition after reading the article. The survey results were also picked up in websites across the world as far as Australia and Bulgaria! It also featured on a number of websites with our key target audiences such as Nursing Times and Public Service Health Review. The radio was also keen to feature the results and our Chief Executive, Sarah Sleet did interviews on BBC Radio Jersey and BBC Radio Scotland. This was great take up of the survey results and we’d like to say thank you to each of you who took the time to complete the survey. It really does help us raise awareness in the media www.coeliac.org.uk/members/newsletters/latest-exg/news-and-events-august-2010-exg *******************
