GF board
...... email the hotel you will be staying at before you travel to prepare them for your GF diet. I did this on my recent travels to Kenya, and not only did my hotel cater for me but also did the Chef at the Camp on Safari, which I originally had my doubts about, but they were all sympathetic and wonderful. At each location I was introduced to the Chef and was able to explain my situation further and again went through what I had put on the email to them. At some meals I was catered for totally individually & my husband had wished he had what I was eating as it looked a lot nicer than the offerings at the buffet !! At the second hotel (14 night stay) I was told to just mention my room number to the waiter/ess as all catering staff had been given information on my condition. At every meal (mainly buffet) I was told what I could and could not eat, and once again, at some meals I had individual portions cooked for me. I must say - I never once went hungry ! & I think they enjoyed the challenge of a different diet to cater for!

Posted by Mac on 28/12/2005 GF board ....I would just like to let everyone know that I had an easy peasy GF holiday - just took a little planning. BA flight - fantastic - got steamed salmon, veg and potatoes whereas hubby got a plastic lasagne he didn't touch!! Kenya Airways gave me fruit platter, where everyone else got a hard tuna roll which looked inedible. On Safari, I was immediately put face to face with the head chef who made sure he understood my needs. I was always advised on what I could and could not have and even had special meals e.g. chicken curry brought out and made especially for me !! At Mombassa, I was told to make sure the waiter knew my room number, as the kitchen had been advised of my dietry requirements. If there was a problem, I was made a similar alternative and on special nights e.g. BBQ on the beach - I met with the head chef who gave me a personal tour of all the foods on the buffet and BBQ's that I could have. I didn't go hungry or have any upsets at all. Couldn't believe that it was so easy. I think the emails sent in advance helped alot though. Then Xmas dinner was fab with hubby making me my own gravy etc. The only thing I missed out on was Yorkshire Puds as I didn't have enough time to go to the health food shop for different flour, but as my plate was so full up anyway, I didn't notice at the time !! ...I went with Kuoni. However I researched the websites for each individual hotel myself before I left and emailed them direct. In my main stay hotel the head of Guest Relations was there to great me on arrival and discuss my requirements, as well as introducing me to the Head Chef a little later on. .. ****************** www.kuoni.com/corporate-site/
