Trip to South Africa

GF board
…
My husband and I have traveled to Cape town in the past and have never struggled. In the larger 'Spars' you will find a good selection of Dr Schar products as well as some regionally produced biscuits. Sometimes you will find a brand called Glutagon, who produce pasta and pizza bases. There are a range of sauces produced by a company called Ina Paarman, which are good if you are going to be eating in (full details on there website, sorry at work cannot remember full details).
In Woolworths you should find some of the natures path (Envirokidz)cereals and cereal bars. Finally one of the big supermarkets Pick N Pay baked me a fresh loaf of GF bread in store everyday. We e mailed them before we went and the customer service manager was great, he would even phone me when it was ready to collect and usually it would still be warm when we did, its maybe worth getting one of your relatives to check this out in their local store.
As far as eating out goes we never really had a problem most people understood the GF requirements annd adapted dishes if necessary.

I ate out in South Africa this time last year. We usually ate in Belito near Durban and had no problems at all.
I didn't go shopping for food but the people I stayed with brought lots of gf treats - biscuits etc, that they found in the health food shops. ….

If you are visiting the Cape Town area you should not have a problem at all - like Vee says you will find foods in most health food stores. In addition the Spar supermarket chains, Pick n Pay and Woolworths all have GF products they are usually sat aside main stream products not seperate - I even brought items home on my last trip!! My husband and I are out in Cape Town as well at Christmas and I am really looking forward to going to col'caacchio pizzeria - they offer all of there pizzas in a GF version with just over a £1 sur charge they are delicious, there website is below.......
I would strongly recommend you take something for your flight though - I have flown there with a number of different airlines and it has been very hit and miss - especialy the return flight!!
