I went to Kenya a few years ago, and stayed with friends in Nairobi and a hotel in Mombasa. Nairobi sells quite a few gluten free items in the supermarkets, and there are a few Indian restaurants where you can get naturally gluten free food. I didn't fare quite so well in Mombasa - the hotel I stayed in had previously dealt with coeliacs, but I still got sick! However, on a day trip, we ate dishes tradional to the area, which were naturally gluten free - the biggest crabs I've ever seen, chicken coconut curry and steamed rice (ooh and deep fried coconut, which was glorious). Unfortunately I've no idea how to say 'I can't eat gluten' in Swahili, but I hope this information helps. Most people speak English, especially in Nairobi…….
