Vegetarian eating in Turkey
Posted by John from Somerset on 21/5/2009
Gf board
Just back from a fortnight's backpacking and had no problem finding food. Plenty of mezes (cold plates) plus dolma and lots of cooked vegetables and rice, but I took Menu Cards and even the smallest of places took considerable trouble reading them and working out what I could eat. Remember, if you're veggie, to delete the Turkish words for meat and fish from the cards.
Just beware of pilaf which looks like rice, but is actually bulgar wheat.
I took lots of rice cakes and vegetarian pates for picnics plus prescription biscuits as there were no GF ones there.
Unfortunately the delicious looking patisseries are out of bounds, but you can stuff yourself stupid on Turkish Delight instead.
