Gf board
Hi, we recently went to a campsite in the Vendee for 2 weeks. My 4 year old son is coeliac so I took the usual crackers, pasta, biscuits and also some Dietary Special croissants so he didn't feel left out. We mostly had BBQs of an evening and I found that sticking to the great fresh meat and fish was the best bet. The fruit and veg available, especially at market, is also great. In the supermarkets the steak hache (type of beefburger) and the sausages seemed to be gf. I don't think the french use rusk in their saucisses. We ate out a couple of times and William had grilled fish and chips. On asking most frites seemed ok. I took the Dietary Card and most restaurant owners seemed happy to check things out with the chef and found something he could eat. I didn't look for any free from foods but found we didn't really need to…..

GF board
Just spent two weeks in Vendee then the Dordogne, self catering. I found no GF specific foods in any of the major Supermarkets (eg Champion, Super U, Carrefour, Intermarche) so don't expect Free From sections like in the UK.
I am told that GF items are available in Health Food shops, but I never found one despite wandering around at least a dozen small towns during the two weeks.
There are lots of comments on the Support board ( see Lynns link) and also this was discussed further down the board ( though this may have 'dropped off' )
I took lots of GF bread and crackers, but found some Maize flour ( with 'Produit sans Gluten' actually written on it) and put together some wicked pancakes for breakfasts ( two eggs, bit of milk, a few spoons of this flour, all mixed up to a batter and cooked in Olive Oil. Some honey and sugar to taste - lovely!)
I wanted to try Glutabye ( mentioned on supp... and elsewhere) but didn't trust delivery to the campsite so missed out on their lovely looking crossants etc. Never did find any of their published stockists either.
Have a good time - we did. Check out the local fresh markets, and if you are within a few hours definitely go to The Grande Parc ( Puy du Fou) Its a great day out.
