Lagos, Portugal
From Emma W (not B any more)
.....about Lagos in Portugal, we stayed self catering for a week but ate out in different places every night and NO hassle at all. ALL waiters speak English , all understood the GF thing, checked my choices with the chefs - no mistakes all week. Can particularly recommend the 'Don Sebastiao' in Central Lagos - Fish soup and seafood (crab, prawns & langoustines) rice were so good I went back for a second evening! Nice & quiet in November too....

GF board
I was in Monde Gordo on the Algarve earlier in the year and you can get ommelettes every where and salads.I got jacket potatoes aswell it was new potatoes cut in half with cheese on not jacket potatoe but very nice.
We were half board and it was a buffet so I could eat very easy.
I did pick up a magazine while I was there and it said there was a health food shop in Praid du luz that sold gluten free products.
I took my own cereal, biscuits and cakes with me so I always took something out with me in case I got stuck for lunch and there is always the supermarkets where you can buy fruit.

Just got back from Acoteias near Albufeira in the Algarve. Took translation cards with us and had no problems at all (far less than here in the UK!). We found the staff in the restaurants we went to were very understanding and kind to my 9 year old daughter. At one restaurant they always gave her extra cheese and olives to make up for not being able to eat the bread brought before the meal. The restaurants we went to cooked from scratch and chips were cooked separately to any battered food. Luckily she likes to eat griled meat or fish with chips and doesnt want much variety. There would be far less choice for vegetarians - I guess it would be mainly omlettes and salads. Only went to small supermarkets and they didn't have any free from section but sold rice cakes. Was pleased I took prescription bread, biscuits and the ingredients to make drop scones.

Vilamoura, Algarve - recommended restaurant Posted by Carolynm GF board on 7/9/2014 Just to let anyone know who is thinking of travelling to Vilamoura, I read about the restaurant O Colonial as being good for coeliacs, so tried it and it is quite true. They cooked two lovely fish meals for me and all was well, so I do recommend them! www.vilamouraportugal.org/restaurants/colonial-restaurant-vilamoura

algarve - Luz, Burgau, Lagos Posted by Ali on 6/7/2017
GF message board
We recently stayed in Praia da Luz and found that the supermarkets both there and in Lagos were very well stocked with a range of gf items, quite a few that we don't have at home! We liked Baptista. There is also a health food store near Baptista in Luz with gf items. We didn't eat out so much - some places did have gf options, but they were not the sorts of things that my 13 year old liked. However, there is a pizza restaurant in Burgau that is excellent. (Casa Padaria Pizzeria) All pizzas can be made gf, they were knowledgeable about suitable toppings and the food was lovely!
