Mallorca (Majorca), Spain
"The hotel Bon Sol is superb for a quiet relaxing holiday .... It is also a very good base if you want to explore the island as Palma is only 20 mins away by taxi and it's really easy to get around by bus and hire car too. The hotel is brilliant - we have now been 3 times and it is the only hotel we've been back to! The hotel is family owned (not a big business hotel) and Lorraine & Martin (the owners) usually have breakfast and/or dinner in the restaurants. The food is great with plenty of choice and it is very well presented. I am a coeliac (on a gluten free diet - allergic to wheat & gluten) and the "team" at the Bon Sol spoil me rotten every time we go - I've never been to any other hotel that has been so careful with my food. Every time we go back we are welcomed like old friends and there are people who have been holidaying at the hotel for 25 years. What better recommendation can you get."

Just stayed at Coma Gran, in Sa Coma, Majorca. The waiters/waitresses were all aware of Coeliacs and were very helpful and pointed out what contained gluten and what didn't. Every morning and evening I was given a choice of 6/7 dishes. Absolutely fabulous.... it seems that eating out abroad is a lot easier.

My husband has just come back from a business trip away in Majorca, stayed in the Dorint Sofitel in Camp de Mar.
He ate both at the hotel and was taken to various Tapas Bars/restaurants and everywhere was great, nothing was too much trouble, gluten free bread was provided along with all the food was made okay for him to eat, even including GF pasta bake one evening……

Gf board
We stayed at the Hotel Hesperia Playa in Santa Ponsa, Majorca in October 2007 with 3 Coeliacs in the family. Once we got over the slightly unhelpful staff to start with, we were looked after really well.
There was always plenty of fruit, ham, eggs, cheese, yogurts, bacon, tomatoes, omelette for breakfast (all help yourself). Evening meal, the Head Waiter would give my husband a tour of the buffet table and advise which was GF. Usually the soup was ok, there were lots of salads that were ok including ham, fish, cheese, plain salad vegs etc and usually some plain meats & fish as well as some casseroles, paella, hot vegs, some in sauces that were ok. Always fruit for puds as well as freshly made rice pudding and sometimes a creme caramel type dessert & plenty of lovely cheeses.
We noticed in the supermarkets that a lot of the sausages were naturally GF and also some of the pre-packed meats were too. These were good to get a picnic lunch with crisps, rice cakes, fruit, cheese, yogurts, etc.
Didn't find the Spanish over-friendly or over-helpful in the cafes or restaurants if we had lunch out but then we have been to Turkey twice over the past 2 years where they bent over backwards to accommodate our diet and could not be more helpful so I think we were spoilt there!
Could not find any evidence of GF bread in the many supermarkets in Santa Ponsa but alternatives such as Rice Cakes were available. Mt famiy didn't eat a lot of bread - there was plenty of other food to eat!

GF board
There's an El Corte Ingles that will sell GF foods:
Palma de Mallorca - Avgda. de Jaume III, 15
They normally have a good range of foods, both snack and normal. Nice frozen bread too! (and GF beer), there supermarket is in the basement and there might be a separate 'DIETETICO' department, just outside the supermarket checkouts that stocks the GF branded things BUT they also sell normal foods (marked 'sin gluten' or 'apto para celiacos') in the supermarket. If there's no separate dept, then the GF stuff will be on the shelves in the main supermarket.
Mercadona have a lot of stores that will sell a lot of 'normal' GF foods: (C/ = Calle - STREET)

Mercadona also sell the GF beer (Estrella Damm), and stock a lot of their own brand stuff and is VERY CLERALY MARKED. GF ice creams are TO DIE FOR - this is by far the best supermarket for GF stuff. They sell Beiker part-baked bread. Personally, I don't like it and much prefer the frozen baguettes from El Corte Ingles.

You were lucky Katey. I had a meal at the Paris Restaurant in the main square in Palma last month and my daughter, who lives in Spain and speaks fluent Spanish, checked with two waiters about the GF meal but chips turned up. She discussed with the chef about cross-contamination and was assured all was OK. I then spent the next 24 hours on the loo. No other problems at other eating places, but it shows that however careful you are it can't be guaranteed
