Risotteria is more of a cafe/lunch type place rather than somewhere I'd go to for dinner.

..there's a great pizza and risotto place in Greenwich village - you can even get gf beer there. Also, Times Square there is a mexican place where they have about 4 types of vegetarian chilli. Not all were gf but some where and i had fajitas one day and enchiladas another.
Also a few indian restaurants around...


i think i did post just after the holiday and not sure i have the full addresses now. The pizzas, risottos and beer are in the Risoteria, Greenwich Village. I'm sure anyone could find where it is exactly by a search engine. Cant remember the details of the tex mnex - something like the New York Chilli Company, next to The Casablanca Hotel which again must have a website - i stayed there and they give complimentary breakfast (unusual for New York)and toasted up by own bread for me. Also had kellogs frosties which i can tolerate and love.

I took Eat Natural Bars, Tesco rolls, and Doves Farm Cornflakes.

The American brand Lays classic crisps are gf, also tried Baby Ruth chocolate, Almond Joy, and Hershie, gf but horrible!

GF board

Just come back from 8 days in New York and thought I would update you. The Risotteria in West Village is still going strong. Had GF pizza, panini, choc chip cookies, choc fudge brownies, beer etc. From next week they will also be doing a pasta night on Tuesdays.
Also ate in mexicans, indians etc with out any problems.
A great place!

Wholefoods Market

I discovered a wonderful place on my last day while on holiday in New York last year, called Wholefoods Market. It is a chain, with a number of stores in NYC and across the States. I visited the Columbus Circle branch in NYC, and could not believe my eyes when I stumbled across a huge selection of gluten free breads, muffins, scones and any number of delicious biscuits. In addition to the supermarket section of the store, they also have a large amount of prepared food, all of which is fully labelled, even down to what went into the stock cubes, which could make a handy lunch.
I was extremely impressed, and kicked myself for not finding it until my last day!

Eating out in NYC is very simple they are very aware of our complaint. Do use the american awareness card as the waiters will bring it to the chefs attention and makes lofe a lot easier. (You can get this card from "glutenfreerestaurants.org"). Also there is a brilliant health food shop called "Wholefoods" at Colombus Circle so no matter where you are in NYC it is very easy to get to. This shop sells fresh Gluten free Bread, biscuits, cakes etc. any thing you need to eat and every thing you can eat is marked Gluten free. You can eat in or get a take away i have also used this shop when i traveled to Boston so do give it a whirl well worth it.
Here are a couple of resturants recommended by Ceoliac Society in New York.
Gluten-free: Gus' Place
Restaurants 149 Waverly Place (just off 6th Avenue)

-Identify yourself as a celiac and they will give you a 'starred' menu;
-gf bread will be brought to the table

By New York standards, this restaurant is moderately expensive

The owner here is a celiac, and the menu has an extensive list of gf - mainly risotto, but othere choices also, and it is reasonable in price

Hello All
Just returned from a fab four days in New York celebrating my sister's 40th birthday! Had e-mailed the Westchester Coeliac Group for some info re places to eat and had also done a search to check out various places.

Anyway, managed to find Sambuca which was absolutely brilliant!! What a treat to be able to eat pasta in an Italian restaurant - and a chocolate brownie to finish it all off!!

GF board

New York is GF heaven! Every supermarket we went in had GF foods clearly ladeled in them. The best was Whole Foods Market. They had bread, pasta, waffles, muffins, biscuits.... better then anything here.

Eating out was really easy too. Heres I few we went to that have GF menus.

Had a meal at the Marriott Marquis Hotel (Times Square) and they have a Coeliac chef working there who was really help full. He said they have a good selection of GF items for breakfast if you stay.

I took bread, pasta and biscuits but wouldnt bother if i went back.
