Eating GF on travels in UK
Posted by Adrian S on 31/1/2007GF board
....I know it's not the easiest travelling and being GF, I have to do it ..., but it's certainly doable with some thought and planning.
…
To get me through my travels I make GF pasta, rice and potato salads. I take things like boiled eggs and cooked sausages. I always leave the house on a full stomach, even if it does mean having an english breakfast at 05:00. If I'm feeling lazy, I have a flask which takes two tins of soup, there’s lots of tinned GF soup available.
M & S Simply Food outlets are great for us. As well as salads they have cooked chicken pieces which are very filling. There's one on the M40 (Cherwell valley) and I think there is one at the M6 (Knutsford I think) I'm sure there are more about.
The M40 (Oxford) services has a microwave for heating baby meals. I get some strange looks but yes, I use it for heating frozen meals too; things like chilli and rice or beef stew.
If you go past a Sainsbury’s with a hot food section you can buy rotisserie chicken, great with houmous and GF pitta from Tesco.
You can get chips and shakes from McDonalds and eat the bugers (without the bun!)
You can by John West tuna based meals from the supermarkets, simply peal the lid off and eat or add some cooked rice for something more filling..........
