The Greyhound Inn : Cheltenham
GF board

The Greyhound Inn : Hewlett Road Cheltenham.
Just for interest, my Brother runs this pub that serves food, and I've been giving him lots of insight on CD. He will now cater for GF & Veggie meals, he only makes his gravy from GF ingredients and even got a supply of GF Bread. He serves Breakfast , Lunch and evening meals, Children are welcome and he can often serve them a smaller portion. He also has a Skittle alley room. He does not have an email address or web site, that is too technically challenging for him!
Telephone no. for the Greyhound Inn is 01242 242839 (Contact) Alex Lee

PIE & MASH, Cheltenham

PIE & MASH, Cheltenham 01242 702785
situated in Bennington Street (off High Street, corner is near Stagecoach shop and main post office) - apparently the first and only organic bar in the UK certified by the Soil Association - organic is their constant theme but one of their main priorities within that context is to cater for GF-WF and other diets I went in when they first opened and said "I don't suppose you do GF sausages" and to my amazement the answer was yes, they try to keep some hot at the counter all the time to take away, usually lamb or pork. Kat the proprietess says they do their GF baking (pies and puddings) on a different day from their ordinary baking. In recent months I find they can serve me with a choice of three or more GF savoury pies and at least two different sweet puddings. Their own make of gravy is always GF and so is their "parsley liquor" (nice on hot eels). They make their own GF-WF tomato ketchup. Downstairs is the restaurant and upstairs is the bar and art exhibition space, sometimes there is live music (the leaflet I have in front of me says "medieval band practice Thursdays 9-10 pm" for example, but I haven't asked about this yet though) The staff advised me to ask for the sound balance control to be adjusted if I don't find the sound track in the restaurant digestive enough, that shows how helpful they are. And the food is delicious, ask if they have a GF "Dave's special" pudding (a subtly flavoured one that I have enjoyed), or crumble. Often there is soup too and they do cook some vegetarian items. They don't yet do GF beers because they don't know an organic one, but they have ciders, hot chocolate, sparkling ginger, etc. Fridays and Saturdays are (usually) the days for eels. I am very lucky they are on an easy enough route from my home and it's fabulous someone is thinking of preparing particularly wholesome food for people who need a different diet. Kat did tell me she hopes to give a speech at a Europe-wide organic food show to be held coming April at Kensington Olympia.

GF soup served in Cheltenham
Posted by Michael L on 3/2/2006 GF board
It's of concern to me when out, whether 'soup' on menus is GF-WF, hence I thought I'd mention this.
Casasa
is a sandwich shop open Mon-Fri (not Saturdays) from 8.30 a.m and locking their doors at 3 p.m sharp.
They do not use GF bread but the following is worth noting:
- all their soups are GF (best to double check this when visiting)
- you can name a price for a plateful of salad items of your choice and you get a plateful to that value e.g hummus, potato salad, egg mayonnaise, etc. i/e sandwich ingredients without the bread
They are at 18a Portland Street (next to Rendezvous Society) and their tel. no. is 01242 256349

Marinades restaurant Cheltenham Posted by Michael L on 14/3/2010 GF board In Cheltenham I discovered Marinades restaurant in the upper High Street obliquely opposite Restoration pub. They do most evenings and most lunch times. A few evenings at about 6 o'clock they continue 'early bird' prices which rise a little during the evening. The emphasis is Caribbean and those dishes I tried were not too hot tasting. GF dishes were marked thus on the menu and the proprietess was happy to discuss the issue. www.marinades.co.uk/

This place is already mentioned on the Supp Board, but I thought it was worth a post today, because I have just enjoyed a three course Gluten Free meal there today.
Their tasty Carribean-based menu has many marked GF options and they are evidently very understanding of ingredient and contamination implications. They even sell bottled GF lager.

Cheltenham Tea Room Posted by Pam, Dorset on 4/7/2013 The Well Walk Tearoom is fantastic - a really quirky place too. Choice of several gf cakes all homemade, scones for a cream tea (mine was heart shaped and so prettily served)plus gf bread for sandwiches and toast. I had a snack lunch another day with potted stilton with port on gf toast - a real treat. And the people are lovely and so enthusiastic. It's tucked away on a tiny back street most people don't know exists but is just off the main shopping area. Gets very busy so book if you want the full afternoon tea at a weekend. www.wellwalktearoom.com.
