Re: Holiday in Jersey Posted by Ken (MK) on 3/1/2008 Gf board I can recommend the Ommaroo Hotel Havre Des Pas, St Helier, Jersey, JE2 4Ul. Phone 0044(0)1534723493. They are part of the Seabird Group of Hotels www.seabird.co.je My wife and I stayed there for a week last May and the the staff were very helpful, the hotel had bought in GF bread and could tell me at every meal what I could choose from. There was nearly always plenty of choice. They even coped with my GF requirements at a special dinner with nearly 200 guests so I gave them full marks for that! www.ommaroo.com/****************

Jersey Hotel - excellent service
Posted by silkensteel on 1/6/2004 GF board
Hi all, don't post very often but I always read the messages. Have just returned from a weeks holiday with my 82 year old Mother. We stayed at the Apollo Hotel in St Helier, Jersey, (Channel Islands.)
I am Celiac and also have the dreaded lactose intolerance, so I took my own Soy Milk to the hotel and at meal times they brought me some in a "proper" jug, whereas in other hotels they just brought the carton and dumped it on the table!
The food was excellent, ( we were half board) and the waiters could not do enough to help and find out if what was on the menu was safe. The Head Chef was French and he offered to make me sauces with cornflour if I wished, so that I would not miss out.
Breakfast was "serve - yourself" with a very large range of options, including fish - haddock and kippers NOT cooked with any butter.
Apart from one night when there was a self serve carvery, it was waiter/ess service, very personal and excellent.
There were not any puddings I could eat, but there was fruit every night, so I had strawberries, and in place of cream or ice cream on them they found me some lemon sorbet, yummy!!
If any one is thinking of going to St Helier, I can thoroughly recommend the Apollo, not just for the food, but for excellent service in all areas.

Holidays - Jersey (Channel Islands) Posted by Rose - Nottinghamshire on 8/5/2005
Hi all, Have just returned from a weeks holiday in Jersey staying at the Mayfair Hotel in St. Helier ( on a half board basis.) I want to comment about this hotel and the excellent service I received there, which may be useful to others using the board. Sent them an email a few days before I went to warn them that I was a coeliac and also lactose intolerant. Received an email back which said I should not have any problems.
Brakfast was good, quite a lot of choice and they bought some GF bread so I could have toast - luxury! I took some soy milk and spread which they kept in the fridge for me. Each morning the Head Waiter came to see me to discuss the evening menu. If there was not anything suitable ( which only happened once) I was offered an excellent alternative. For some meals they made me a 'special' gravy without flour and if there was no suitable pudding I had a choice of fruit salad, sorbet or baked apple etc.
I cannot fault the service I had, no problems at all with my tummy and the quality of the food was also excellent - much of it local Jersey produce.

Re: Jersey ? Posted by Lisa (Yorks) on 8/4/2006 GF board ..We had our first holiday in Jersey since our daughter was dx last year. Stayed at the Hotel De France, and managed to sort out GF meals ok (lots of explaining at every meal, but we got there!) Boots on the main high street had half an aisle of GF food - breads, crackers etc - we were amazed. .. www.defrance.co.uk/ St Saviours Road St Helier, Jersey JE1 7XP 01534 614 000
