Was out for a meal today at tea time in the resort of Portrush on the north irish county antrim coast. I have been to the restaurant many times in pre coeliac days and it is renowned for its good international cuisine. Reasonable prices too, 15 pounds a head on average, less at lunchtime. Good for kids too with special kids menu. Very good family restaurant. It is very busy at all times and there is no booking. I had been told by a fellow coeliac that they had a GF menu and I asked for it. To my delight it consisted of 2 A4 pages of dishes. It was mostly in the form of guidance on the normal menu and how this could be adjusted by the staff for you to remain GF. Even the chips, garlic fries and potato skins were marked GF and when I asked about separate friers for these was told that they use specific ones for potato frying only. I hope that all will be okay and that I will have no adverse reaction to anything I ate. If not I will post it on the map.
It was a pleasure to find this menu available and it took the usual dread out of the experience of selecting a meal. I spoke to one of the managers and thanked him for the menu and told him how it had made me feel. Apparantly they are planning to laminate and make more available. Well done and wouldn't it be a good example for others to follow?
This is a holiday area with a great coastline so any of you out there planning a visit to Ireland might bear it in mind. Don't forget you can also get great GF butchers pork sausages and beefburgers in another town just a mile or two along the coast so self catering will work for you too.
The restaurant is the Ramore Wine Bar in Portrush Harbour, County Antrim and I survived unscathed I am glad to say. Yes Florence I have been to Cromore Halt in nearby Portstewart too. I put it on the map as staff there are well known to be coeliac friendly and the food is good too.

If anyone is heading to the lovely Green Glens of Antrim in the future you'll love Harry's Restaurant in Cushendall. It's located at the end of Chapel Road and offers a full range of Gluten Free Starters, Main Meals etc.
I was in it today and was delighted with the menu, listing a great range of GF Options.
The staff members were all fully aware of 'Gluten Intolerance'.
A big well done to Harry's. Lovely meal, in a great restaurant. Great menu, service and very reasonable!
