GF board
For anyone planning to visit the north coast of Antrim and the Giant's Causeway, the little coastal town of Portrush offers lots of choice for coeliacs. The three main hotels can cater for you, the Best Western Magherabuoy, the Ramada and the Royal Court. I have had very good experiences with the first two and have been told that the latter is good too. The Harbour has 4 very good restaurants, all catering for GF and most with GF menus if you ask. Other outlets in the town may also be able to provide for us if asked. I had a great 3 course carvery today in the Magherabuoy Best Western hotel. The staff and chefs could not have been more helpful to my group which contained me as the coeliac, two vegetarians and a vegan.

Cantonese restaurant -great experience Posted by davidmc on 3/8/2005 GF board
I went to a cantonese restaurant in Antrim town for lunch yesterday as it had been recommended on the GF map by a local coeliac group member. The local coeliac group had been for a banquet there. There was a press cutting on the wall about this. I was really impressed as the staff gave me the business lunch menu (£5.50 for 3 courses) and advised me on my choices. They kept me right. I asked about the batter on my chicken to find that they had used potato flour. They told me that they had made the fried rice for us both GF to make sure that there were no problems. I chose fruit salad as dessert but declined the ice cream until they told me that they kept GF ice cream for coeliacs. They let me see the main GF menu too and there were loads of things on there that I could eat. The manager told me that they get lots of local coeliacs reteurning for meals and carry outs. I am not surprised. It may be 45 miles from home but as it is on the way to Belfast I aim to be back soon.

I ate recently in Thyme and Co in the town of Ballycastle on the north Antrim coast, (top right corner of Ireland). This cafe serves GF food and cake and they are well clued up to assist you. The food was very nice and reasonable. You can get details at www.thymeandco.uk.

Today I visited Ballygally Castle Hotel on the antrim coast road just north of Larne. A beautiful place it can cater for coeliacs if you ask. They keep gluten free tray bakes which are defrosted from frozen. I ate little caramel shortcake squares but didn't eat the white chocolate crispy ones as they appeared to contain rice crispies and I was not sure if I could eat them. There are lots of meals that can be eaten by us though. Lovely place to visit too.

Belfast and surrounds Taste of Ulster Posted by David mc on 4/8/2013, 20:02:37 This guide is for food outlets recommended by the Taste of Ulster guide. This is generally a good guide to quality and service. Scrolling through shows which places highlight gluten free as something that they offer. Note regarding the Kings Head on the Lisburn Road, this is generally known as a place to get gluten free food. I haven't been in a while but it's worth checking out. www.nigoodfood.com/Belfast%20-%20Taste%20of%20Ulster%20Guide.pdf

Northern Ireland, good GF offering
Posted by David mc on 16/10/2016, GF message board
Antrim Lough Shore park, close to the town of Antrim, has a coffee shop which offers some good GF options. Best of all the chef is a coeliac and bakes huge GF scones each morning. Also cake and enormous tray bakes. There are meal options too. A nice place to visit with the shoreline walks and on foot access to the lovely Antrim castle gardens nearby. Gorgeous courtyard cafe there has some commercial GF cakes and a sign to ask about allergies. There is a caravan park between the two sites so it's a great place for a coeliac caravanner!
