Centre Parcs - Lake District

GF board
Just to let everyone know we have returned from a brilliant week long holiday to centre parcs, lake district. Molly my daughter was diagnosed only 4 months ago now with coeliacs and we never thought we could venture away. the staff at centre parcs were brilliant, they held a meeting with the managers of all the restaurants about a week before we arrived and discussed coeliacs disease. all the restaurants have to be able to provide food of the customers choice, there is not alot of choice on the menu but the chefs have to be able to make anything up you choose. just thought we would let everyone know. Also Wetheriggs at prenrith cook excellent home made pies / bread all for coeliac suffers so a fantastic place for all the family, the food is out of this world.

I am glad to hear that you have had such a positive experience. When we went to Centre Parcs ( Longleat) last year we wrote first and they told us that they could not guarantee that they could provide us with any GF food at any of their restaurants. They weren’t much help although we did manage to track down some GF food by going in to see the chefs a while before we booked for a meal. However someone posted about one of the other Centre Parcs last year or early this year, and it may have even been the Longleat one, and said that they were well looked after and that they were even going to serve GF pasta in their Italian restaurant. So things are looking up. It is such a disappointment to go on holiday only to have to struggle to get GF meals. we would consider Centre Parcs again if they are now more coeliac friendly.

GF board We would consider centerparcs again if they were CHEAPER! (specially in school holidays) We found the supermarket at Nottingham Centerparcs sold many items such as ham clearly labelled as gluten free, which is unusual; I spend ages in my usual supermarkets looking up ham in the CUK guide.
Also the restaurant staff were helpful, and told us all the burgers were GF. We went to see them during the day before visiting restaurants in the evening. In the evening the chef came to our table to make sure everything was OK.
We had previously been to CenterParcs in Belgium and discovered (the hard way) that in Belgium the mince has gluten in it, but the sausages don't!

I've just come back from CenterParcs Longleat, and they were great. I had GF pancakes at the Pancake House (no need to prebook them), and the staff were very helpful in all the restaurants. Last year I went to Sherwood forest, and went to the evening do, and the chef took me through the buffet, and offered to cook plain salmon or steak as well if I wanted. We took breakfast stuff with us, but there were plenty of cereals to buy in the Parcmarket.

There was one kids meal option which had gf and dairy free stated on the menu. It was chilli con carne). The kids meal option was available in most restaurants (but not Hucks Diner). My adult coeliac was told to order plain meat or fish because they didn't know what was in any of the sauces. He says that next time he will try to order 2 of the GF kids chilli bean meals because that would be more interesting than plain chicken or steak and cheaper!

GF boardHi Someone last year posted about going to Centre Parcs and being able to eat out and get GF food and even said that the Italian resturant had GF pasta and the pancake place GF pancakes. Which Center Parcs was this? It wasnt too good at the Longleat one, but that was a couple of year back. What is the CP like at Nottingham??

I went to Longleat Centre Parc last week with my family, including my 2 year old who is intolerant to diary, soya, wheat and gluten. When I booked, I mentioning that my son was a coeliac and we would be bring special frozen foods for him and would like to get access to the villa early just to put the foods in the freezer. They arranged for us to have access to the villa 2 hours early and told me to mention the food intolerances any restaurants. Whenever I mentioned that my son was Coeliac, the staff would always have the information available on what was safe. At one stage I was asked if it would help to see the Head Chef to discuss planning my sons meals for the stay. The supermarket had a reasonable selection of Gluten free foods on the shelves though the selection in the freezer cabinet was a bit more restrictive. Overall, it was a good experience and far less stressful than I expected. Not once did my son have a reaction from any of the foods. So I would say 8 out of 10 for their efforts. Center Parcs Elveden
We went to Center Parcs Elveden recently and I was very impressed at the GF stuff they had. The Italian restaurant routinely had GF pasta and the Pancake House could do GF pancakes (no need to arrange in advance). There was plenty of choice for me (as a vegetarian coeliac) at the Indian restaurant (Rajinda Pradesh). There was even a choice of dishes at the Sapinere (quite posh revolving restaurant) including some nice desserts; and they had GF bread there. The supermarket (Parcmarket) had some GF stuff too.

GF board Have just spent the last few days at Elveden Forest. Found some restaurants helpful and some not....
The Good:-
The staff at the Pancake House were excellent at providing gluten free pancakes (both savoury and sweet) and also were able to confirm that their chili nachos were g/f. The waiter and kitchen staff all seeemed clued up and were very helpful. Definitely the yummiest food in the parc that's not off bounds.
Also the friendly waiting staff at Huck's Diner were only too happy to liaise with the chef and confirm that I was able to eat their burgers and chips and I took along my Tesco g/f roll for them to heat up.
The Bad:-
After learning beforehand that the Italian restaurant Luciano's were able to provide g/f pasta and pizza, I was really looking forward to a long awaited Italian meal. Unfortunately, they have recently been taken over by large chain Bella Italia. When I arrived I advised them that I would be having to eat g/f food they fished out the allergy folder and left me to it. All I could have was the usual salad so didn't bother there.
The Indian restaurant Radah Pradesh was very similar, just provided me with the allergy folder. Although Indian food is usually a pretty safe bet, the staff were not very helpful and the service was really slow.
The Ugly:-
The original French restaurant at Elveden Forest had also been taken over by a large chain - Cafe Rouge. When I advised the waitress about the g/f diet she said that they would help where possible and tried to point out what I could eat, although to be honest, wasn't too sure. She did say the the chef was willing to cook some chips separately for me but it would take an extra 15 minutes which I did not mind. When she came back to take our order she then said that the chef was now unable to do separate chips (why I don't know?) and that I could have boiled potatoes!! Was really cross that he couldn't be bothered and left him a note on my receipt at the end saying so and got a waitress to pass it on to him. My 20 month old son also had to wait over an hour for his food.
All in all a mixed experience. It's a shame that Center Parc have allowed the bigger chains in though as they are not as willing to help make life easier for us.

GF board
..We have just got back from a fantastic 5 days at Center Parcs at Sherwood.
I just have to say what a fantastic time we had, not just the swimming, cycling etc. but the brilliant experience we had when eating out with our son (3) who is gluten free, wheat free and dairy free.
On Monday we ate at Hugo's at the country club, we sat down and as all the leaflets and menus said we brought his dietary needs to the attention of the waitress, who went straight away to see the chef, our little boy had already said that he had wanted a burger and tomato and cucumber, and this was no problem at all and if he had wanted he could have had a baked potato too.
Tuesday we ate at Chez Pierre and we told the waitress again and she went and got the head chef who offered us several things and steak and baked potato were selected.
Wednesday we cooked ourselves a huge breakfast and so we didn't eat out that day, although the supermarket did have a few specific GF things like biscuits sweet and savory, and macaroon type things, I can't remember what they were exactly.
Thursday we ate at Huckleberry's and again the head chef arrived to our table with a big book of things. Our son chose chicken nuggets (yes the regular ones they use for all their customers are coated in maize flour crumbs!) and chips and Heinz beans. The nuggets and chips were cooked separately in the oven to avoid any contamination.
And today we ate in Chez Pierre again and he had steak and chips with cucumber and tomato - and they gave him a HUGE portion and we were only charged for a kids meal!
We didn't eat in the pancake house but I had enquired (we just ran out of time) and the chef said she could make him some pancakes with rice milk (not rice dream) and corn flour and knew which fillings he could have.
With every meal his cutlery was brought out separately after being sterilized! and when his food was brought out the waiter/ess put on some blue gloves so there was no contamination.
Oh and one other thing they all said that if we had wanted to bring him something we had cooked they were more than happy to heat it up for him so he could eat with us.
Sorry this is such a long post but it really made our holiday being able to eat out and getting a really good service
I say 10/10 Center Parcs.

We have just spent the weekend there, and eating out was so easy ! We went last year, and it was significantly better than then. We ate in the Grand Cafe (waiter flicked straight to a list in his order pad to tell me exactly what was GF), in the Pancake House for lunch (not even an eye flicker when asked for GF pancakes) and the fondue evening (did me my own pot of cheese fondue), and Lucianos - GF pasta is offered as a standard choice. There is also now a free from section in the ParcMarket with pasta, cereal, pizza bases etc. Sophie

Helo everybody! I have just got back from a wonderful weeks holiday in Centre Parcs Elveden Forest, and would just like to say how accomodating they were to my coeliac needs. The Pancake house had gluten free batter, and the Indian restaurant couldn't have been more helpful! They even understood that deep frying popadoms on the same oil as their deep fried pastries could contaminate them! I would Highly recommend it to anyone with a coeliac member in their family!

Just got back from a fantastic holiday in Centreparcs Longleat.
Was very surprised at the amount of GF food available in the supermarket on site - including cereal, pasta, biscuits, cakes etc was as good as in some main supermarkets at home.
I also ventured out for a meal in The Pancake House after reading on here it was possible to get GF pancakes. It was a great success as tasted delicious and was able to have choice from all menu as the GF aspect is a mix they use which they add eggs and milk to so can include all the fillings. The waitress was very helpful when i enquired into the ice-cream as she let me go and read all the tub labels so i could decide. When i had chosen she even realised not to put on a wafer even though i had forgotten to specify it.
In other cafes/bars on site there was a few GF options on the menu including chilli and a gluten free brownie ice cream dessert.

Gf board
… We were there last weekend, and had a brilliant time. On Friday, we ate at Strada - which used to Lucianos. I was disappointed that they no longer offer GF pizza and pasta. However, they were quite clued up, and from the children's menu, our daughter could have had a chicken option. There were no suitable desserts, but the manager offered a sorbet. In the end, we asked them to top a gf pizza base that we had taken. They were very obliging. We found a GF dime cake in the jardin de sports, and two types of Mrs Crimbles in the supermarket. The pancake house was superb - GF no issue at all. If fact, a few of our party chose GF! We didn't eat at Hucks this time, but in the past, the chicken nuggets were GF, as was a child's portion of chilli. …. *******************

I have recently been too whinfell forest, they all have pretty much the same restraunts. On most of the menu's there is a line about cross contamination issues, but most say they can adapt food too your requirements. On saying that you should still take a supply of your own because it gets pretty tedious asking the same questions day after day in every restraunt. I know holidays shouldn't be about cooking but if you eat in your accomodation at least you know you won't be ill and spoil your break. I always prepare a casserole before I go so it is simply put in the oven no messing about. I love center parcs, all the wildlife comming up too your door is amazing. Have a great time. One more thing the parc mart has a small selection of gluten free goodies but no bread.

Whinfell ……We have been here and Sherwood on a few occasions, and LOVE it. Last time we stayed, I e mailed center parcs re the gf issue, they got one of the head chefs to call me, and other restaurant managers e mailed me back to confirm if they could or couldnt cater for us. We havnt yet (touch wood) had a bad experience here...

Sherwood Forest ……… We were there at the end of Jan, and managed fine. We ate out at Strada (used to Lucianos). I was disappointed as they used to offer GF pizza and pasta. However, the manager was clued up, and there was one meal form the children's menu that was GF, and a few from the main menu. My daughter finally decided to have a pizza with the base we had taken - and there was no problem with toppings. The pancake house was probably the best - GF pancakes no problem at all. In fact the Gf ones were lighter than the normal ones. In the past we have had GF cake at the Country Club, and GF daim cake at the Jardin de Sports. We have also had GF nuggets at Hucks - but didn't eat there this time - so don't know if they are still available. There were 3 types of GF cake in Starbucks (so we had to go there 3 times, so that our daughter could try them all!). Also found some Mrs Crimbles in the supermarket. ... ********************

Just had a lovely weekend in whinfell forest, ate in the lodge most of the time but tried the pub for sunday lunch. Am pleased too say I was able to have most of the carvery excluding the usuals, sausages and stuffing. Was very suprised too be told by the chef that the gravy was gluten free. It was lovely being able too have the same meal as everyone else and not feel hard done by. No ill effects afterwards.
I also forgot too mention that they also sell gluten free nuggets on the childrens menu.

The lady manager in the pub is coeliac (at Whinfell) so they are very clued up.

Center Parcs Whinfell. Good experience.
Posted by Annie Manchester on 17/3/2010 Gf board
A big thumbs up to Hucks restaurant in Centre Parcs Whinfell Forest recently. Not only are their staff all aware of the food intolerance lists, but they have them pasted on the wall over the children's buffet section too. When I queried about their chips, a member of staff said they would go and ask the chef to start a new batch of gluten free oil to make some chips in their second frier, and then came back to say that as the other frier had already been used that day to deep fry other battered things that it unfortunately they couldn't do it that day, but would do it the next day. Informed. Helpful. Cheerful. No hassle.
I'm not saying it was gourmet, but it was so pleasant, and my kids had their first experience of a "buffet" they could actually partake in.
…
From Lins
Never had a bad experience here. The manageress at the pub has coeliac, and was great too. When we went last, the catering manager (of the whole of Whinfell) actually called me before our stay, and gave me contacts for each restaurant to ensure GF dining. On another occasion, one of the chefs actually made something not on the menu, just because my little one didn't fancy any of it. 1st rate service, cant praise it highly enough.
