Re: Restaurants near Chelmsford

I live near Chelmsford. The La Tasca is vey nice but a bit slow at serving sometimes.
Russells in Great Baddow, Chelmsford is a great French restaurant that usually have some good items that are OK. Tell them when ordering and discuss the menu when you get there.
Muddy Waters is a restaurant in a boat on the river. It's really nice, reasonably priced and they are very helpful. Make sure you discuss GF with them when ordering.
....the Farmhouse Feast is a lovely restaurant in Roxwell (on the Harlow side of Chelmsford). We haven't been there since diagnosis but they are helpful and when we used to go a lot of the dishes had fruit based sauces so might be OK. Worth ringing and asking. ....

GF board ……….I've asked the 'members' of the Chelmsford group to send me their recommendations for Essex eateries.
Rayleigh Lodge - The Chase, Rayleigh have a carvery and apparently, one of our members has got them 'well trained' for gluten free food.
Also Orsett Hall, Orsett, has a 3 course Sunday lunch for about £15. Starter - some soups are OK, and of course, the usual melon. They do separate gravy for GF meals, and their fruit and sometimes meringue type dessert that is GF. If you phoned in advance, they may be a bit more creative for you - you never know.
Also the New Street Brasserie in Chelmsford is meant to be helpful for GF meals.

Chelmsford, Essex: The Griffin The Griffin Pub in Danbury, Chelmsford, Essex caters for gluten free-ers well with gluten free bread (not your usual dry tasteless stuff, this is homebaked goodness!! And dipped in olive oil and vinegar.... heaven!!!), pizzas, burgers with buns and desserts. The best thing is they don't make you feel like a nuisance for asking lots of questions and the staff know everything that goes in their food ervice can be a bit slow during busy periods but it's well worth the wait and you can leave feeling content and full after a good feed!! Visit their website for menus and offers: griffindanbury.co.uk/gluten-free-queen.blogspot.co.uk/p/eating-out.html************

Posted by Karen (Ess ex) on 4/10/2006 ….. My 2 coeliacs are not all that sensitive, so I couldn't give 100% guarantee for anywhere that we go. My daughter is more sensitive and tends to get a tummy ache, so she's the best guage, but she's only been GF since April and we haven't had a Sunday roast out during the summer months). The Cranleigh (near the station in Hornchurch) do a lovely Sunday dinner. It's not a carvery and you can have other things as well. The puddings are really lovely too (usually some roulades or meringues or exotic fruits). You would need to book and tell them that you need GF. The are usually very obliging - they once cooked me a lobster thermidor even though lobster wasn't on the menu at all. Have had some success at the Headley Arms in Warley (which is a carvery). You need to take a thermos flask of gravy and explain everything VERY carefully…….. www.thecranleighhornchurch.co.uk/
