Posted by Vee sunny Durham on 23/8/2008 GF board I stayed there on Wednesday night and was given a gf alternative to the meal included in the package. The main course was delicious. However, the only alternatives for dessert were fruit salad or ice cream. Grrr! The breakfast buffet was quite extensive and lots to choose from but they had no gf bread. Apparently it was on order (even though I notified them in July and also the day before we arrived). I asked could they make me pancakes made with cornflour instead and received fresh, piping-hot pancakes with maple syrup. slurrp, yum! Next week we are at the Thistle Kensington Gardens so will be interested in making a comparison. www.hilton.co.uk/kensington?WT.srch=1Vee

Excellent meal at Carluccios in London (and elsewhere) Posted by Gill M on 5/1/2009 www.carluccios.com/caffes/ I can recommend Carluccios in South Kensington, ideal for coeliac children after a visit to the Natural History or science museum! They have gf pasta penne available, excellent service and lively, child friendly atmosphere but also pleasant for adults. There is a gf menu for adults, and for children you can substitute the gf pasta into the childs menu. They warned us we'd have to wait about half and hour for the pasta, but I don't think it was that long, and anyway did not mind waiting. (I always take a something for the children to do, colouring/reading when I go to restaurants, so the wait is less tortuous.) A tonic after doing battle with oyster cards and London Underground in the Christmas crowds! They also have restaurants in other locations around London and other cities. They are child friendly and have gf pasta, and are clued up. I took my 9 yr old in December to the south Kensington one and they were great. There is a gf menu for adults on the web site, and for children you can ask for gf pasta in the kids menu, but as Sam was starving I asked for an adult sized gf pasta + ragu. It's the best Italian food I've had in ages, but then I do live out in the styx! Maggie on 6/2/2009 Went to the Bluewater branch.. waiter came out.. you have the GF menu and it will take 20 minutes for pasta as we have to do everything separately. I was impressed because I had not even asked him for the menu, he must have been told by someone else. Had a bad experience at another branch who told me something was on the GF menu which wasn't and I didn't know at the time you could get a printed version of the menu. No problems but I have to say a bit tasteless………………………. Dawn on 5/2/2009 I've had risotto at several Carluccio's and know that they do GF pasta too. The staff seemed fairly clued up and they had a special GF menu too (at St Pancras and Heathrow most recently!). ******************
