Shrewsbury Posted by siannorthwales GF board If you ever want a special treat when visiting/staying in Shrewsbury try the restaurant Renaissance(Princess St). It is run by a couple and they were brilliant. Very helpful and accommodating. I even had my own "nibbles" with drinks,so as not to be left out., and the meal was wonderful. (I don't think it would be suitable for children, but you could ask). ********************************** www.stmem.com/renaissancerestaurant/

They had a sign on their door saying GF Cakes and Sandwiches available. Husband had their lemon drizzle cake which he said was very nice. They told us they were hoping to do other things in the future i.e lasagne. Here's hoping. Great to see the notice on the door.

Excellent eateries in Shropshire - thanks to Ann C Posted by Sue L, kent on 5/5/2010 GF board I can highly recommend: Café Retreat at Women in Mind Wellness Centre, Shrewsbury near the Castle. www.womeninmind.co.uk/index.php/cafe-retreat We had a very nice lunch there, and they understood about cross-contamination etc. There were several GF/WF items on the menu, including GF/WF rolls. I had a GF pasta bake, which they did without the cheese as I am also dairy free. Yum! Tankerville Arms, Longden, about 5 miles south of Shrewsbury. www.thetankervillearms.co.uk/ The chef here was very clued up about any special diet, and so I was able to have pretty much anything I wanted, as he could adapt it if necessary. And the food was absolutely wonderful, a true gastro-pub! I was told that the paté and the soup were GF, tho I plumped for the field and wild mushrooms on a bed of salad instead of bruschetta. Will definitely be returning here. Flippin Fish in Shrewsbury on the Hereford Road near the Meole Brace Roundabout for GF fish'n'chips was very tasty, cooked to order - best to ring them 20 minutes before you want to pick it up. Their order line number: 07599617773 We weren't as impressed with Cloisters Tea Rooms on Wyle Cop although they had GF/WF/DF homemade bread. I asked if food was prepared separately, and they didn't usually do that. .... ********************************************************************************************************************************************************** Gluten free Oswestry Posted by Lyn on 18/1/2011 Gf board Had a very pleasant surprise today to find that Sophie's Choice Deli in Willow Street, Oswestry, Shropshire has ventured into gluten-free products (take away). So far they have lasagne, cottage pie and quiche, all homemade. They seen very aware of CC issues and are willing to extend their product range where there's a demand - tel Lesley Makey on 01691 650651 ********************************

Carmar Tea Rooms Shrewsbury Posted by Karen (Rugeley) on 3/12/2011, 22:11:58 Went to Shrewsbury on Thursday for a Christmas shopping session with my mom. We go every year and have often found it quite a struggle to find somewhere to eat, other than Wetherspoons. A friend of mom's told her that the Carmar Tea Rooms had a gf menu so we popped in there for lunch. We both had liver and onions with mash and vegetables with gf gravy and it was delicious. I had eton mess for pudding and mom had homemade gf Christmas cake, which I also tried and it tasted wonderful. Although mom is not coeliac she often prefers to have the same food as me. Thoroughly recommend these tea rooms. There is a web page, but I can't find any mention on there about the gf menu, so maybe it's fairly new. www.carmartearoom.co.uk/

Shrewbury eating/shopping Posted by sian north wales on 16/9/2012, 16:21:36
Had a lovely lunch at Bistro Jacques in Shrewsbury on Friday. The chef very quickly marked 3 out of 5 GF starters on the menu and 5 out of 8 mains. Choice! Very friendly staff so one for the board. They are at Mardol near the market. Then popped to the market to Gluten Free Living(www.glutenfreelivingshrewsbury.co.uk)stall where there was a very good choice for us and even snacky pastries ready to eat. Bought a delicious pork pie -that I didn't eat straight after lunch! No cakes left so will have to find an excuse to go again.
