Brunel Manor, Torquay Posted by Michael on 1/10/2005, 12:42 am 80.189.168.195
This is Brunel's would-be retirement house but he died before he could move in. It is 4 miles from Torquay centre in the Watcombe area up some steep hills but near buses.
They got my diet right!!!!! (I only took a few of my own "crackers")
And they have a programme of art, spiritual, walking etc events and you can simply do B & B or half board and a lot of people take their children there with them.

Amigos Tex-Mex Torquay Posted by Mrs Bing on 19/4/2008 GF board Hubby & I were in Torquay on Wednesday for our son's 21st; we ate at this restaurant which had a good atmosphere, very colourful decor, staff who had actually heard of GF, and plenty of food to choose from. Very reasonably priced too. You pay for an all-you-can-eat buffet, and can add extras such as steak, for a small price. The buffet was lovely - I added a steak to mine, and had plenty to eat. www.amigosrestaurant.net/

Posted by Eileen on 31/8/2002 If you go to Torquay, which is near Teignmouth, then I would recommend Jingles Mexican Restaurant. They will give you corn wraps instead of fajhitas. (The portions are huge)! Also in Torquay is a Thai restaurant called Annies. Ask for Di, (the owner), and she will be very careful and advise you what is GF. She will also make you a Thai GF curry. .......................................................................................... I stayed at The Grand Hotel in Torquay a couple of months ago, the gf food was amazing. They also had gf bread and crackers. The Hotel is right on the seafront, near the train station, hotel service was very good. A place to be pampered in style.

Coleton Fishacre, Devon, etc Posted by Jill on 30/3/2005
GF board This is a National Trust house and gardens not far from Torquay. Anyway went for a cup of tea. Could not see any GF cakes but asked on the off chance - I always do - and siad they had GF scones so had a cream tea! They have some frozen GF scones which they zap for a few seconds if they have a customer. Pretty good scones actually and the cream was even better. Also stayed in The Grand Hotel Torquay for 4 nights. Had gf toast for 2 mornings - they then ran out and couldn't get more over Easter - and very good 4 course meals (vegetarian for me too) each night. Its not cheap but worth it

Vaults Restaurant, Torquay, Devon
Posted by Eileen ( Bristol) on 12/7/2005,
I just wanted to give this restaurant a mention once more, (it is on the GF Map). I went there on Friday evening and chose roast duck but requested it without the orange sauce as it wasn't GF. The meal arrived along with the sauce, when I was then informed that the chef had made it for me GF! Was a super meal too.
On Sunday I went to their carvery. (Took a jar of Bisto Best for them to make a gravy for me). They had a dish of non GF cauli-cheese on the buffet. I sorted my meal, got myself seated and, lo and behold, a dish of GF cauli-cheese arrived at the table!
Needless to say, I was most impressed and very appreciative. See folks, it CAN be done by these establishments if they TRY. (I usually go at quieter times which helps the kitchen I am sure).

The Orange Tree - Torquay Posted by Lucy (Devon) on 26/11/2006
GF board
The most GF friendly restaurant ever! The menu has the crossed grain symbol all over it, and when I booked they offered me a gluten free roll. The menu actually mentions Coeliac disease and there are only about 2 dishes which aren't GF. I had a chat with the owner after dinner and he said the chef was wheat intolerant as was his partner (which explains why they are so clued up about it) and that they have been in contact with CD-UK. Last night, he said, there were 4 diners who were Coeliac and the Coeliac nurse specialist from our local hospital also dines there. What's more the food was incredible! Fantastic wine list and very good service. (only one veggie option though - which wasn't GF, but I guess if you ask they will be happy to provide) If you're in the area I definately recommend it. Torquay, Linden house hotel Posted by jane on 27/5/2009 GF board Hi, just wanted to share with you all what a brilliant hotel this is (advertised in crossed grain), we were lucky enough to get a room there over the bank holiday weekend. The food is superb, all gf (with a few little changes for the non gf among us) As the owner is coeliac, there is no need to explain anything - what a refreshing change!! Greeted with coffee and the most wonderful homemade sponge cake in the afternoon, had a wonderful 3 course evening meal and the breakfast in the morning didn't disapoint - the hardest bit was chosing what to eat the choice is excellent!! definately one to recomend, not only for the food but the hotel was superb also and only a short walk into Torquay - perfect to walk off that 3 course meal!! lindenhousetorquay.co.uk/
