PS on trip food
Posted by Liz on 19/2/2010
Here is a good one. Was in Newcastle delivering training yesterday and my sales manager and the venue host went to M&S to buy lunch. They asked what could I eat and said 'no wheat / gluten / grain' and they came back with a gf ham salad for me - they said it was easy to do.

Marks & Spencers, Waterloo railway station I noticed that M&S have a Food Shop on Waterloo Station, London (open Mon-Sat 7am to 23hours, Sunday 8am to 22hours) which seemed to sell quite a few GF items. I found GF rice & mushroom salad, new potato salad (with plastic fork), salsa tortilla crisps, chocolate, also fruit, water, fruit juice etc. They were rather busy about 6.30 pm but not impossible. Look for M &S under 'The Reef' cafe bar. ******************************************************** Very pleased to see M&S 'simply food' as soon as we came out of Green Park underground & so bought sustaining GF rice salad & yogurt plus free plastic fork & spoon & plenty of bananas. They also do other GF snack food (see allergen box on packaging - if 'gluten' is not mentioned or no box then it is GF) & also fresh coffee at GP. www2.marksandspencer.com/stores/about/788.shtml Read more: coeliac.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lamb&action=display&thread=907&page=1#ixzz1Ch09Qg3e

Eating in Cafe Revive (food bought in M&S shop, tell cafe you are going to do this before eating it with your drink bought in cafe )

Hi david Just curious to what you do find in M&S that you can eat out of a packet. The twins sometimes go into M&S for a GF muffin but I cant think of anything they sell in the shop that you can eat out of a pack apart from Yoghuts or Jellies.

Sometimes sliced cooked chicken breast, plain or mexican and a pack of mixed fruit salad or lemon curd yoghurt (heaven). The smallest chicken pack will fill anyone on its own. Sometimes plain poached salmon flakes or thai prawns. Sometimes the bacon and cheese potato salad (perfect amount for a snack). If I don't do that I buy the cafe carrot and coriander soup (usually GF) and munch with it either the plain crisps from the cafe or better a pack of parsnip crisps from the shop. I am surprised at how some crisps are really fine with soup, especially sweet chilli or parsnip. You need to get your head round the idea that you don't need bread with it. You can also buy little minipacks of cheese and stuff like that or some of the sandwich fillers - so if you have a few corn thins with you in a little sealed container you are ready to go. If there is more than one person you can buy the sliced cooked streaky bacon packs and add these to the cheese topped corn thins. I like these a lot as they are crisp. You can also buy the little chocolate swizzler on a stick at the counter for 50p. It is for dipping in your coffee but it can be a mini sweet treat on its own. I don't buy the GF muffins except to make trifle at Christmas as they are way too full of fat. I hope this helps.
…I forgot about the lovely fritatta -I rarely find it but eat it when available.

From Lyn G
...some of the M&S ready-made salads are GF ... (like bean, lentil, potato), also stuffed vine leaves & some dips with certain tortilla chips (black pepper ones and chilli, lemon& cumin seed ones are GF).
Plastic cutlery is available free when you buy these M&S 'picnic' items, BTW.
I contacted M&S head office some time ago & explained there were problems for coeliacs/DHers in eating GF in Cafe Revives since there is/was nothing/little in there to eat that is GF.
I asked then if a coeliac could buy something GF from M&S Food dept & take it in to eat with a drink purchased in their Cafe.
Head office said certainly, quite OK, but to let people in the Cafe Revive know that you are going to do this beforehand.

Hi, I found the Gluten free fish portions in bread crumbs today in the Middlesbrough store. It is Cod and was £2-99 for two portions.I have frozen it and will try it soon and report back .

I found them in the fridge near all the other breaded fish. GF breaded chicken was with the other breaded chicken too. Also found a much better range of cakes & biscuits all together on shelf by 'normal' cakes. M&S if by far the best GF supplier in the small town I live in so I find I am doing more of the food shopping there. Morrisons may be bigger but its GF section is pitiful

M&S crumpets and teacakes - report Posted by Audrey on 15/9/2011, 10:40:12 95.150.15.x
Tried both yesterday. Crumpets get 99.99% - I really like them.
Teacakes get about 90%. They are nice and soft and full of fruit and I am sure many people will approve.
They are much better than other brands I have tried. But they still have a faint odd taste. I don't know whether it is some kind of spice that manufacturers add these days, or whether this is something to do with them being gluten free.
