I visited alton towers today. Hadn't been since being GF and from what I could remember I knew I was unlikely to get any safe food there. So I took lots of GF snacks in a rucksack. At lunchtime my friends decided to go to Rita's Bar and Grill Close to Ug Land. I looked at the menu and then decided I'd ask if there was anything I could eat. Theres an open service hatch and the chef was there so I went and asked him. He said he'd had the same query already today and told be I could either have a chicken salad or he could do me a chicken breast without BBQ sauce with a jacket potato and salad but I couldn't have chips as they were coated in flour.
Another success! Again I feel well and had a really really nice meal (not what you expect at alton towers!)

........Went to AT for 3 days/2 nights in the half term. I wasn't very adventurous in the park and had a plain jacket with a fruit salad in the Ripsaw Cafe (in the Forbidden Valley).
In the hotel we ate in the Secret Garden restaurant. On the first night I explained the situation to the waiter who got the chef over to talk to me. The options from the menu were steak and chips (the chef assured me he would use fresh oil) or chickpea and bean cassoulet. I picked the cassoulet, it was lovely and I suffered no ill effects SO I ordered it the following night without going through the whole 'is it gluten-free?' routine- HOWEVER when it was served,it had a big hunk of bread on top. I was horrified and thought that it was my mistake for not checking the menu properly, but on re-checking it wasn't stated on there. Anyway, the waiter was really apologetic and said it wasn't a problem at all and got me a fresh dish - again it was yummy and I suffered no ill effects.
Breakfast at the hotel was a buffet which as usual was very gluten based.I couldn't be bothered to ask what was safe as we were in a rush to get into the park so I just picked bacon, fried eggs and fresh fruit and that was fine.

Well at last a nice surprise. I asked about eating at Alton Towers last week and everyone seemedto have had negative experiences. .......I was really pleased when I was told each restaurant had an allergy menu outside or in clear visibility and I could talk to the chefs if I needed to and they would cook for me. Oh yeah!! Well, the first place I tried was the carvery and sure enough allergy menu up and food available and this was repeated .Then at lunch time the heavens opened and we had to rush into a restaurant I had not checked a BBQ grill by the Pirate show and sure enough clearly displayed by the queue was the allergy menu and true Emma could not eat the BBQ or chips but she could have a peri-peri chicken salad and baked potato she loved it and with the addition of our butter and cheese it was great.Next time we can go so much lighter in spirit and rucksack"!! Well done for the changes Alton Towers!
