Re: South Wales Posted by Paul SW on 15/10/2004 Gf board
Cardiff has most of the national chains that have GF menus - Nandos, La Tasca, Slug & Lettuce, Walkabout & Wetherspoons. The Highwayman Inn, Rhoose (near Cardiff Airport) can provide GF gravy with a Sunday Roast if they are contacted in advance.

Re: South Wales Posted by Adrian on 15/10/2004 GF board
I had a meal at a French bistro style restaurant on the first floor of the redeveloped docs area of cardif recently. Sorry I can't remember the name but there is only one Bistro upsatirs. Not particularly Coeliac aware but after a little explanation were very helpfull and all our food was very good.
Avoid the Cardif bay Hotel which is nearby. The chef there doesn't have a clue and did a fine job of poisoning me!

Marriot Hotel Posted by Tammy R on 27/12/2005 GF board ...here's the verdict on the Christmas Party at the Marriot Hotel in Cardiff. It was a buffett meal and was obvious when it came to the starter what was and wasn't GF. The choice was fruit salad or the obligatory salad. Main course; spoke to the chef carving the meat and explained I was the GF one. He turned to the older gentleman beside him (the head chef it turns out) and tells him, he promtly steps forward and tells me that I can have the turkey, potatoes, and veg, and to avoid the stuffing, the stews, the gravy and basically everything else, then adds I'll get you your gravy now and bring it to your table. Gravy appeared in a separate jug. Great response from the staff at the hotel - unfortunatley I didn't sample the dessert due to overdoing it on the main course! However a couple of the girls had the remainder of the gravy and said it was nicer than the standard laid on for them. All in all quite a sucess. .... My solution for coping was to visit the best Coeliac cafe I have yet found in the UK. The Pot on Crwys Road This little coffee shop offers vegetarian, vegan, coeliac friendly alternatives on its menu. This means that my housemates can all eat with me and non of us can get stressed about a lack of options. I had a goats cheese and sweet potato lasagna with 2 large cups of tea which really filled me up and tasted great. They also offer a range of GF cakes and other sweet options. They had a separate menu to coeliacs and were very careful in ensuring there was no cross contamination…. www.thepotcafe.co.uk/**********************
