(from Lesley Maciver UK coeliac board)
We were in Manchester for my God-daughter's engagement party at the weekend, and had dinner at a city-centre restaurant called Livebait. I started to explain about myself (as usual) to the waiter, but he said immediately that he knew all about coeliacs, he has a friend who is one and he would speak to the chef! So my sea-bass arrived specially prepared without the dusting of flour that everyone else had.

La Tasca - Didsbury Posted by Laraine - Manchester on 25/10/2004 I recently attended a Birthday celebration at La Tasca in Didsbury/Manchester and ....... Their menu was labelled with (V) and (GF) against some of the dishes available. Needless to say, I will be going there again, it was delicious and meant that I didn't have to do the usual analysis with the frustrated waiter before ordering 'salad' as standard. *********************************************************** 10 - 12 Warburton Street, School Lane, Didsbury, Manchester, M20 6WA tel: 0161 438 0044 www.manchester.com/restaurants/r ... rantID=182

Good GF Restaurants Posted by Hayley on 18/12/2004
GF board
just thought i'd sing the praises ...of restaurants that have been really helpfully for christmas lunches this week - Est Est Est in disbury, manchester were as helpful as they can be with a fixed lunch menu, chef said his dad was a cealiac, suggested i bring my own pasta in and hew made a GF sauce specially, sure they would be really good on a normal night - .... - Little Yang Sing in manchester- was a party of 30, had a banquet and all but one of the four mains were GF, had to have soup instead of the dim sum, but got lettuce leaves for the crispy duck- waitress even stopped me eating one the only non-GF dish as it had soy sauce in and i didn't realise. being GF no probs at all for the staff.
These experieences made me realise that GF is not really the end of eating out after all!

Eating in Manchester Posted by Ric on 4/7/2006
....if eating out in Manchester: Lunch
Try Pret (gf items listed on website or ask manager for list), Caffe Nero (gluten free brownie next to tills, marked gf), Starbucks in St Ann's square (sometimes stock the gf sandwich and always gf cake(s)), La Tasca (menus marked gf) or either of the two Wagamamas (see website for gf dishes). For a refined lunch try Le Petit Blanc (now Brasserie Blanc - gf menu). There is also a Nandos which we have never tried but people on here have done. Obviously the usual McDonalds fries apply! All in all never a need to be short of options in Manchester City Centre at Lunch.
Evening Meal
Night time options include the usual suspects (Le Petit Blanc, La Tasca, Wagamamas) but Livebait and particularly the Harvey Nics restaurant are helpful. If heading into Rusholme ("the curry mile") I would recommend Punjab Tandori - their poppudums and the mango chutney are gf. Ask for the duty manager (as opposed to any old staff) to ascertain which dishes are gf -but I can confirm the excellent Dopiaz and Rogan Josh dishes are.
Hope the above is useful to anyone visiting Manchester.

Le Petit Blanc Posted by ElisaDJ on 19/11/2006
... had a meal here not so long ago. Its was pretty good- most of the GF stuff was similar to the usual menu so I didnt feel like too much of an outcast with a 'special menu'. I had a med fish soup- which was a bit dull but ok. Guinea Fowl which was lush and then a strawberry sorbet/soup for pud.
Service was a bit slow and the atmosphere was not all that relaxing but overall ok.....

Fantastic Restuarants in Manchester and Cheshire
Posted by Sharon, Manchester on 9/1/2010 GF board
Just found a fantastic restaurant in Manchester, next door to Kendals, called Bem Brazil. It's Brazilian food with fantastic salads, soups, potatatoe dishes and as much meat as you can eat from rump to chicken, all carved at your table. The decor looks expensive but lunch is just 12.50 per adult and kids eat free. They even had gluten free bread balls with cheese in the middle, tasted just like french bread with cheese. I was in my element couldn't stop eating, the food is fantastic. This is now my favourite gluten friendly restaurant, up there with Table Ten in Sale and Franks in Altrincham. Gluten Free living is getting so much easier.

Well worth a visit! It's the first time in 4 years since we've eaten Chinese and it didn't disappoint. They have a gluten free menu - a la carte and also a set menu. Hubby (he's the coeliac) really enjoyed it. It was his favourite before diagnosis and we will definately be going back! ***************** …..FromCarly …had a meal at this restaurant … It was the first chinese meal that I had had for 20 years and I was very impressed. We were booked in late in the evening and had the restaurant all to ourselves. The service was excellent and we will definitely go back there should we ever find ourselves in Manchester again. ********************

Eden, Canal Street, Manchester Posted by Dawn on 8/10/2011, 22:06:54 82.41.202.x Went to Eden on Canal Street in Manchester last Sunday for lunch. The service was good and the menu clearly marked GF dishes. The staff seemed aware of contamination and other issues. We'd looked for other places to look but on a Sunday and with the Conservative Party Conference and all the police cordons was pleased to find somewhere! There were several options for main courses, including pizzas. Only one dessert option from memory. My friend (not GF) eats there from time to time and recommended it. www.edenbar.co.uk/

Stayed here last week en route to holidays and was most impressed that there were four GF cereals and bread! The chef had been asked to think of an idea for the restaurant and bless him he had come up with GF options. Sorry wasn't around for an evening meal.

Bill's Restaurants Posted by Pam, Dorset on 1/11/2017, 13:39:15
I was up in Manchester last week and went to a Bill's Restaurant in the city centre. I hadn't heard of it before ( living in a Dorset village a lot of things can pass you by!) but it had a brilliant gf menu. We only wanted a snack lunch but I had a starter which was a large pot of pate with gf toast. Then I had room to choose from the extensive gf puds ....including Victoria sponge with strawberries and cream, crumble, choc brownie etc. Bills seems to be a big chain with restaurants all over the country (probably you all know about it!) but it definitely is worth a visit. The non gf menu was good too with a cheap lunch deal and excellent cheap children's menu. Also bought up north from the Kosher section of a supermarket GF matzo squares which are delicious and an excellent texture though they are huge. They are Yehuda imported from Israel . Quite a lot of Jewish foods seem to be gf especially around Passover.
