I don't know about hotels but we have a great Italian restaurant in Christchurch called La Mamma where they take no end of trouble to make sure your meal is gluten-free. If you want pizza take your own GF bases with you, if you order anything else they'll go through all the ingredients with you. It's loud, fun and very informal. Also very popular. Best to book first. Have a good time! Bob ************************************ Welcome to La Mamma's Pizzeria & Trattoria Established in 1974, this friendly, family Restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere and great food for the whole family. Typical Italian cuisine, with an emphosis on fresh produce, Pizza, pasta, meat, fish and vegetarian dishes as well as comprehensive daily specials. A takeaway service is available. www.lamamma.co.uk/ *****************************************************************

GF Chippy in Christchurch (Dorset)
Posted by Bob on 21/1/2006
... My local chippy is doing GF fish and chips every Saturday all day starting next Saturday. His chips are always OK, I'd know because I react badly to batter. Just in case anyone lives near...... the address is :-
Somerford Diner, Somerford Road, Somerford, Christchurch.
..in the block of shops next to the Somerford Hotel just off the Sainsbury's roundabout.

Went there for first time today - they are very helpful in there and it was lovely to have something from a fish & chip shop in batter. Nice chips too! They also have an attached diner if you want to eat in - would highly recommend. Worth the travel to Christchurch.

I know other people have posted about the fish and chip shop in Somerford near Christchurch but I promised I'd report back too. Took Hannah there on Saturday and it was well worth the trip, she almost licked the plate clean!! We enjoyed ours very much too. What made the experience even better was the lovely people who run the chip shop, they have really taken the GF thing on board. We ate in the really pleasant diner where you can enjoy the food at its freshest. If you are thinking about a holiday in the area I fully recommend a visit.

Fish n Chips - Christchurch Posted by Amanda on 7/6/2007 Gf board
Have phoned the recommended Fish n Chips in Somerford road, christchurch. They do GF every night apart from Friday. Will be our first visit this Saturday. .... Posted by Vikki on 7/6/2007
Basically, they do gluten free chips absoloutely every night, because they fry all their battered stuff in one tray and then the chips all go in another. On Saturdays only they do gluten free batter. I would recommend the pea fritter and my Dad really likes their battered fish......

Somerford Diner - Christchurch
Posted by Ann - Dorset on 4/2/2006 GF board
We went there today for GF fish and chips. They were great. Thanks to Bob for posting this a couple of weeks ago. I did speak briefly to who I assumed to be the owner. He asked where I had heard about them. I was surprised when he said no one else had been in. He said he was hoping they would sell well because the batter was very expensive and if he had to end up throwing it away he would have to stop doing them. Anyway he says he will give it three months to see how it goes. I thoroughly recommend them and I don't have CD - my husband does. They have a small cafe area and of course they do take away.

Great pub in Dorset Posted by susan on 26/12/2006
GF board
Went out for a pub meal with my very complicated family today. 2 GF adults,(1 vegetarian) 1 GF 5yr old, 18 month GF twins and 1 GF 11 month old as well as four other adults. We went to The New Queen in Avon (on the Christchurch to Ringwood road. We've been there a few times before and they have always managed to adapt things for us but now they have introduced a separate GF menu. It is a very pleasant, airy pub and the staff provided Christmas crackers and couldn't do enough for us despite being busy. There is a garden and outside children's play area. They serve typical good quality pub food and could also tell us which 'specials' were suitable. We all really enjoyed our meals and it was great to feel 'normal' especially at Christmas! ...

Good Chinese in Christchurch Dorset Posted by Bob on 9/6/2007 GF board
Would like to give a big thumbs up to the Lychee chinese restaurant in Christchurch. I don't know about the rest of you but I've found that Chinese is the big Achilles' Heel when eating out, I've been glutened at more chineses than anywhere else. Anyway the Lychee has an outstanding manageress who speaks excellent English and knows the ingredients of all the dishes. She was happy to swap courses in set dinner menus to make them GF, and she provided Iceberg lettuce leaves instead of pancakes for the crispy duck, which was great. The helpings were huge, my wife and I had a set meal for 2 and by the last course we were stuffed. And no gluten reaction at all. Only down side was no draught cider but you can't have everything! Also, at the risk of boring 99% of you even further, to correct the prvious posting about the chippie in Somerford Christchurch, the frier there will do not just GF chips but GF batter every day of the week except Fridays. Bob .........

Upper Deck Restaurantupper deck restaurant- christchurch spa hotel- gluten free afternoon tea! Posted by katey k on 9/11/2013 GF board wow! I have just come back from the most amazing experience, and had to share it! myself and friend went to the christchurch harbour hotel and spa, for a relaxing day, and as part of the package , an afternoon tea. I didnt think that this would be a possibility for me, but the staff were amazing, and this afternoon, not one but 2 tall afternoon teas arrived, one normal, and one gluten free! I had 2 different types of sandwiches, gluten free scones, jam, and cream, 2 huge pieces of cake (bigger than my friends!!!) and an amazing chocolate mousse. They all went to such a lot of effort, brought my afternoon tea out first, and the upper deck manager was very attentive, and really wanted to get it right for me. The food tasted amazing too, and I havent been ill-hurray! Top marks to the hotel and all staff, it was so nice to go out and feel "normal" for a change! recommended! www.christchurch-harbour-hotel.co.uk/spa/spa-break
