Another GF eatery on the South (west) coast

GF board
We went to Lyme Regis on Wednesday. Found a cafe in Bridge Street (nr Tourist Information, approx 5-10mins from beach).
The cafe is called "Aroma" and is lovely. Lots of GF options including soups, jackets, rolls & cakes. We had already eaten a picnic but enjoyed a cup of tea & the children enjoyed GF muffins (home-made). Handy to know about for lunch next time! They also do lactose free & sugar free options; very knowledgable & very friendly.

Lyme regis Posted by Suzy, Dorset on 24/5/2010 GF board … I recommend River Cottage Canteen in Axminster. It's about 2 miles North of Lyme Regis. Just mention to the chef as you pass on the way in that you're coeliac and they'll make sure you're OK. In Lyme Regis there's a coffee shop called Aroma who I know do gf cakes etc. They're very nice there too. Not sure about proper food though. I just tried calling them to find out but they're shut now. The number's on the link below. maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?cid ... jAf-3K3RDw There's a deli on the main street called Jalito's who do nice bits and bobs if you fancy a picnic on the beach. I've done this before and picked up a packet of corn thins at the grocer's up the road. There's a small Tesco's too. There's a place called 'The Harbour Inn' and a beachside cafe next door, up at the Cobb end of Lyme but I'm not too sure about whether they do gf stuff. Lyme's tiny so it doesn't take long to walk round. … **************** Lyme From Jules: …Aroma - they are lovely people in there - they do GF sandwiches, soups, lovely quiche with nice salad & delicious cakes too - we have been there several times. It is not far from the tourist information centre, just a little way from the beach. ************************** Lyme Regis - update Posted by Dee on 27/5/2010 GF board Thanks to Jules and Suzy I came back from Lyme Regis feeling great. We ate at Aroma - they did a great goats cheese and tomato tart which was GF and could have done sandwiches as they had gf bread which I believe was homemade. They also did and cheese and red onion tarttoo. My other half had one of their special baked potatoes which had mozzarella and tomato in it and looked lovely. I then couldn't resist a home made date, walnut and maple muffin which was the only gf cake they had that day. It was well worth it even if I had to walk the length of Lyme Regis & the Cobb to walk off the calories!. ..... Dee ****************

New vegetarian restaurant in Lyme Regis, Dorset, with excellent gf menu Posted by Suzy, Dorset on 5/3/2013, This is a new vegetarian restaurant and it has excellent gf options. It's an off-shoot of a restaurant in Bristol which has won many awards and the chef is outstanding. All the gf dishes are clearly marked and when I ate there on Saturday there was more than one gf choice at each course. We mentioned there was a coeliac at the time of booking and when the waitress brought bread, oil and balsamic to the table, I was given my own warm gf roll and ramekin. The food was extraordinary. I had a risotto which I think rates as the best I've ever eaten and everyone else, all meat eaters, raved about their meals too. You need to book as it's tiny, but if you're in Lyme Regis or nearby, I recommend you try it. It's modern veggie food at its very best. www.tierrakitchen.co.uk/

GF board
Spent my birthday staying near Lyme Regis and we went to the Cobb Arms at the harbour for a meal. What a fabulous choice for coeliacs there was!! Three it of four adults chose the fish and chips .... It was all gluten free for everyone, enormous portions and totally fantastic. Haven't had such a great meal in ages.....

lyme Regis Posted by emma on 20/7/2015 GF Board
Thanks for help on this place, we went today and ate at the cobb arms. Quite a few gf choices but we had to opt for cod and chips. All handles separately and fried in separate fryer and delicious. Really big portions which we couldn't finish! also went to west bay beach and there was a hut selling gf chips too. Cant recall the name but it was a green hut on the roadside, u couldn't miss it.

GF board
We are now back from our self catering holiday, actually stayed in East Devon. We mostly ate in the cottage, apart from cakes/biscuits at various garden centres, cafes or supermarkets in those three counties. We did have one main meal out, had gone to The Cobb pub at Lyme Regis on the Friday for lunch, having checked on the internet that morning that it was open, and did do GF fish and chips. However we got there to find the pub had been closed for 3 days due to electrical problems. Thankfully we found another nearby pub which had some gluten free offerings. This was at the Royal Standard, also on the Cobb at Lyme Regis. The menu and members of staff helpfully tell you that the chips aren't gluten free as they're cooked in the same fryers as other food.
We went for something from the specials board that was marked gluten free. Roast Chicken breasts, wrapped in pancetta, served on top of potatoes, peas and mushrooms in a white sauce. It was very nice, and no ill effects felt by my coeliac husband.
