Dorset suggestions Posted by Jill (Kingston) on 13/9/2004GF board
I have just come back from 4 days in Dorset and thought i would share a couple of finds. When i go to tea shops etc i always ask if they have any gluten free cakes. Of course the answer is usually 'no'. However, the answer was 'yes' in The Oak Room, Dorchester. I had already looked at their menu and cake display and saw nothing gluten free - they obviously keep it quiet. Anyway i had a peice of gf chocolate cake.

Rajpoot Posted by Lily Paddweller on 7/4/2011 Had good inexpensive lunch at Rajpoot, Dorchester. You 'help yourself', they tell you all suitable items, best to warn them first if you are coeliac & remind them when you arrive. Only fresh fruit plate for pudding- but of course that is OK for us! www.rajpootrestaurant.com/index.php

Char-Char's Tea Room, Dorchester Posted by Vikki (Poole) on 8/7/2012 GF board Have to post about this place because they were totally fantastic. My sister found details of them online, noting that they can cater for coeliacs, and we popped in yesterday for lunch while out there. They are a brilliant tea shop with LOADS of different types of tea (and they make it properly, with tea leaves and everything), but also, they do gluten free extremely well. When they said they could do any of their normal sandwiches or toasties with gf bread, it sparked an alarm for the obvious reasons. But when I questioned them, they confirmed they use separate everything for the gluten free stuff and they do the toasties in toaster bag thingies, to avoid cross contamination. I'm a very sensitive coeliac but had a 3-cheese and tomato toastie with a side salad, with no problems at all, along with a 'Baked To Taste' brownie and 3 cups of Assam tea. It was SO nice! So, if you get a chance to pop along, please do. Link to their website here: www.char-chars.co.uk/tea-house.php

The New Gurkha Dorchester Posted by LilyP on 11/12/2013 Had buffet lunch at this restaurant, rang beforehand (I'm vegetarian coeliac) to check they could cater for me. They understood GFD & I was told they could cater Ok & to mention I was the veg coeliac in the party when we went. Did that & I was taken to buffet & was told I could have the (very nice) dhal , potato bhagee & vegetable curry already out & they made a special portion of egg fried rice for me (to be sure there was no danger of cross contamination). We were first customers in so I had first go at the food -all tasted very good (curry a bit mild for my taste but lime pickle bucked it up). Cider available, also wine by the glass. thenewgurkha.com/contact-us.php thenewgurkha.com/ The New Gurkha, Phone: 01305 549 197 info@thenewgurkha.com 1 Alexandra Road Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 2LZ Wednesday and Sunday buffet
