Saddle Hotel, Alnmouth, Northumberland Posted by Jane on 19/3/2006 GF board 24, Northumberland St, Alnmouth, Alnwick, Northumberland, NE66 2RA Tel: 01665 830476 Since moving to Northumberland I have been suprised by the lack of GF places to eat and have had experiences which put me off trying for a while. Not today - went to the Saddle Hotel in Alnmouth and had a great roast dinner with gluten free gravy and gluten free white sauce on the cauliflower (one of 6 vegetables!). All for £7.25 including a starter or sweet. They seemed to be very aware of GF issues and it was nice to feel 'normal'. ....... ********* Posted by vee on 20/3/2006 The Sun Inn at Warkworth have a good reputation, Jane. I've eaten there, too and not been ill. GF board
Alnmouth is a lovely seaside village about 4 miles from Alnwick. The Saddle Inn can provide GF food - they prefer you to call in advance so they can be prepared. The Sunday lunches are huge - childrens portions are available. Details should be on the supp. In Morpeth 19 miles south of Alnwick there is Gianni's where they have GF pasta or will top a pizza for you. I did post on here about a bad experience at the Fishing Boat Inn in Boulmer where they 'dont do allergies' and are very unpleasant about it too - shame as they are in an extremely beautiful location. Both Alnwick and Morpeth have Morrisons as the main/only supermarket so the GF range is very poor.
