Gluten Free on the West Coast of USA Posted by GFT on 19/10/2016 GF board Recently we enjoyed a 2000 mile road trip through California, Nevada and Arizona and I had no difficulties regarding the gluten free diet. Lots of restaurants had a gluten free menu and one hotel had gluten free bread, plus toaster, and muffins, biscuits etc on a separate table at the breakfast buffet – full marks! However, I did find that even though restaurants had a gluten free menu, they were generally less good when it came to desserts. There were three particular gluten free highlights. In San Francisco, in the Ferry Building Marketplace, I visited Mariposa Baking Company, artisan-crafted gluten free: pickup.mariposabaking.com/pages/san-francisco Also in San Francisco, in the basement of Macy’s Department Store in Union Square, there is the Asian Box, 100% gluten free: www.asianbox.com/ In Santa Barbara, on Route 1, there is Lilac Patisserie, a dedicated gluten free bakery and café. I have never seen so many beautiful cakes, muffins, biscuits etc in one place. A coeliac’s heaven: lilacpatisserie.com/about I downloaded a most useful App on my mobile called Find Me Gluten Free and wherever we were on our travels I could check my App and find several places listed: www.facebook.com/FindMeGlutenFree/
