GF board
We've been on our travels over the last weekend and had a couple of great experiences and a poor one.
The poor one first: Heighley Gate Garden centre near Morpeth. They are usually ok and quite knowledgable, but something went wrong yesterday. Nobody serving at the cafe knew what was gluten free and what wasn't (from previous experience I know there is a folder under the counter with all the allergens listed, but nobody who worked there seem to know). And then when I asked them to check if the baked beans and grated cheese were ok to have with a baked potato I got the most filthy stare and much muttering as the catering assistant flounced off into the kitchen to check. We didn't stay long enough to hear the answer.
By contrast: the Shoulder of Mutton just along the road at Longhorsley was excellent. The bar-lady (possibly the manageress) was fully clued up and was happy to make me gluten free chips in a separate frier They had several gluten free choices and were happy to adjust the menu to suit.
